Current swaties: is swat really that hard?

Everybody says swat is a tough place academically, is this true?

wonderful question. I'm thrilled to be in, but am going to be a bit apprehensive, come next fall. I'm taking four AP and Honor courses + physics (+ another class just for the fun of it) this year at a fairly competitive prep school. I know they wouldn't have accepted me if they hadn't thought I could do it, but just how difficult/easy was the transition for you guys?

I don't think there are enough current students posting on this forum to answer your question. As a parent, I can tell you that having the first semester pass/fail makes the transition much easier and less stressful. And they would not have accepted you if they had any doubt that you can handle the work.

it does get really, really intense.

when i overnighted, my hostesses were doing piles of homework on a saturday night (but i hear they did have fun on friday night).

i do like how they're not afraid to follow their intellectual pursuits and just do the work, though. it's admirable.

but this is why Swarthmore is sometimes called "Sweatmore."

(That's a direct quote from the financial aid officer, buck.)

:)

I think it is more of being involved in a lot of things than just studying....I could be wrong, since I'm not a student (just the mother of one).

Being able to balance 1) school work 2) Campus job(s) for about 6-7 hours a week 3) Newpaper staff member, so articles to write, people to interview 4) Fun on weekends.
5) Other group meetings /affiation meetings....which is also fun.

ps. - The above could vary widely, I know some people who work a lot more than 6 hours a week.
