$$$$$ is your answer for the most part…

The new model for domestic terrorism (see Binghamton, Illinois U. in particular) is to inflict as many casualties as possible and when confronted end the situation on their terms. In some regard it is a symptom of their psychological need to remain in control, any opposition is better than none. I think we have learned a great deal since 1999, the policies of many Police forces now dictate that officers enter the building to confront an active shooter (as in Illinois). The resources to mitigate such a situation here are just not available. I have seen a response to an “active shooter” that turned out to be a psych patient with no weapon. We got 2 PD units (one from about 10 miles down the road who happened to be in town) and 2 unarmed Safety Officers (flashlight to a gun fight) in the first 10 minutes. No notification, no lockdown, no evacuation, no plan. Collegeville shouldn’t have to bear the tax burden of a bigger Police force either, these schools need to realize that if they send unarmed untrained security guards to a shooting they are not going to help anyone and will probly just get shot themselves.

Passive safety measures are important as well, we’re not just talking about mass shootings here…lighting, emergency phones and a Police presence are key to making the campus safe from both the public and criminal elements of its own population. Because of the letter sent to the local PD by the College locals and students know that if they come on campus they will meet no immediate resistance, hence the guy that walks around in the back woods and takes shots at deer and campus buildings (and me); do you think that would happen if there was a COP or at least some authority figure cruising the parking lots? Not to go on an SCCC rant here, but I know you are all familiar with the “crimes happen in gun free zones” argument, well…they have created a Police Free Zone, and everyone knows about it…

PS. Its good to be having an intelligent discussion. Thank You.
