I’m going to second Eckerd if she’s at all open to heading south - and don’t worry about it being too conservative. My lad loved it there. “Think Outside” is their motto, so if that fits it’s worth a look. If not, disregard. There’s an added bonus to this one that Parent’s Weekend is in Feb making it a good excuse for a southern vacation. It may have too much partying for her, but my lad was not a partier and still enjoyed his time. He told me the campus has a “live and let live” vibe.
In PA, have you considered Franklin & Marshall or Washington & Jefferson? I know students who have gone to both and loved their times there.
As suggested by several posters, Skidmore College is one to consider. Saratoga Springs may be just what your daughter is seeking in a town.
Flagler College in St. Augustine Florida also satisfies your criteria.
Agree that Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon may be a match. University of Puget Sound in Tacoma (Seattle area), Washington is another to consider.
I wil also recommend Flagler College in St. Augustine which has a stunning campus and the most charming town you can imagine. The whole city is walkable and a foodie’s dream. Your DD doesn’t want Southern but I am thinking she means that more as the culture vs the location. Both my husband and I graduated from there (I was and English and written communications major) and my son seriously considered it when he was touring schools. He wanted a larger school so that ultimately knocked it out of contention but he had a hard time letting it go. If you have any questions about the school, please let me know.
Connecticut College. Beautiful campus. SAT optional NESCAC college.
Town is okay, but proximity to NYC .
Roanoke College in Salem, VA. Cute town, beautiful campus. Around 2,000 undergrads.
I don’t think Wooster is the pressure cooker that list suggests. Everyone I know there has a great work life balance. Everyone does do a thesis, that’s kind of their “thing”, but there is a lot of support.
If unweighted, 3.7 GPA would be more like A- than B+.
B+ would be more like 3.3 GPA (unweighted).
@ucbalumnus Her current unweighted GPA is actually a 3.75 after year end grades and her latest ACT is a 30. I guess I put a B+ average as she has “average” rigor so I sort of feel like that takes her GPA down a bit. Her HS does send 98% of the kids to a 4 year college so all of their classes are considered college prep. We are trying to find mostly safeties and matches and really aren’t concerned too much with reaches.
Regarding Wooster, it really isn’t a pressure cooker. It’s a very collaborative place with an incredible amount of faculty interaction and support. The homework rep comes from the Independent Study program which is the hallmark of the curriculum. For half of junior year and all of senior year, students work on a project of their choosing with the support and guidance a faculty mentor/advisor. The projects are large scale and in depth as Junior IS lasts a semester and Senior IS lasts an academic year. IS is always there, needing attention until it is complete. That’s where the homework rep comes from. But when you graduate, you have completed something close to a Master’s thesis. It provided me advantages both for graduate school placement as well as professional opportunities. It isn’t easy, but is incredibly worthwhile. And since you get to select the topic, it can even be fun. My Senior IS was titled: “Metalinguistic Knowledge? Monolingual Children’s Use of Two Lexical Aquisition Heuristics: Criterial Use of Highlighted Features and Preservation of Mutual Exclusivity”. I mean, doesn’t that sound like fun??? ?
