Every university will be affected from these budget proposals if they materialize. Glad to see Stanford is taking it seriously and is doing what it can to address the situation.
Just because I’m a nice guy, I’m gonna do the OP a favor and summarize his or her anti-Stanford arguments in one convenient post:
(1) Stanford sucks.
If you go digging around the internet for Stanford-related articles, blogs, opinion pieces, etc., you’ll find this or that part which portrays Stanford in not the most flattering light. Therefore, Stanford sucks.
(2) Do not go to Stanford.
If you’re interested in STEM, you shouldn’t go to Stanford because there are too many of you. If you’re interested in non-STEM, you shouldn’t go to Stanford because there are too few of you. Therefore, if you’re interested in either STEM or non-STEM, do not go to Stanford. Even if you’re interested in neither STEM nor non-STEM or have no interests at all, do not go to Stanford because Stanford sucks.
(3) Stanford CS sucks.
Despite having the #1 ranked CS department in the world, Stanford CS sucks. Although there has never been any historical precedent for restricting access to CS (or any other majors), feel free to wildly speculate that Stanford may limit or cap CS enrollment; at the same time, bash Stanford for “feeding the CS frenzy.”
(4) Do not go to Stanford to study political science, public policy and related fields or if you want to enter law school or public service.
For example, there are more Yale undergrads than Stanford undergrads at Yale law school. Despite the fact that there are a lot more Yale undergrads applying to Yale law, go to Yale because Yale law school is #1 and does not suck; Stanford law school is only #2 and therefore sucks. It goes without saying that Stanford undergrad also sucks.
Currently, there are two Stanford undergrad alums serving on the US Supreme Court; none of the Justices went to Yale undergrad. Not to mention, two of the biggest and youngest rising stars in either party are Stanford undergrad alums: Cory Booker (who went to Yale law) and Julian Castro (who rejected Yale law for Harvard law). The former is considered a front-running 2020 Presidential candidate; the latter may one day become America’s first Latino President. But Yale is supposedly a no-brainer so you could follow in the footsteps of such intellectual heavyweights as Dubya.
Oops, you left out the first part of the paragraph:
“At Stanford, those federal funds total far less than what the university contributes in institutional funds to student financial aid.”
Don’t worry about it. I’m sure it was just an honest mistake.
@stanfordfoodie - thanks for the chuckle. I needed it.
@stanfordfoodie Lol you made my day…I thought i d be nice and not call the OP out but since you guys did already I might as well join in haha.
@CA94309 has a glaringly obvious anti-Stanford agenda in many different threads on this forum. It is so funny. Wonder why such insecurity…
Good post stanfordfoodie. There was someone using the moniker anxious2017 who had the same attitude as CA94309. “I am going to scour the Internet for hours until I find an article somewhere with something negative about Stanford. I am going to use that person’s article as proof positive everyone in the world should not go to Stanford.” The lack of logic is incredible but I guess when you have an agenda, reasoning isn’t needed.
It seems the moderators are fine with someone like CA94309 creating an account for the purpose of attempting to trash a school rather than writing useful comments. I don’t know where CA94309’s hatred/jeaolousy/envy/resentment comes from. He expends an incredible amount of time looking on the Internet for articles to wage his anti-Stanford agenda on a message board. Rather sad someone is so obsessed.
Btw, the only Stanford grad to be elected president is widely believed to have been one of the worst US presidents. He plummeted the country into the Great Depression that a Harvard grad had to clean up.
I don’t see how that makes Stanford less reputable?
Btw, Hoover didn’t plummet the country into the Depression single-handedly. Widespread stock market speculation and the banking system set the stage for 1929 long before then.
Thanks for the kind words!
I find that a useful post. If ever another Stanford grad gets elected, I will well prepared for another Great Depression.
I wonder what people will be saying about a school like say Penn in years to come…
@anxious2017 was last active Dec 2016; coincidentally, @CA94309 joined Dec 2016.
Not just same attitude.
@CA94309 If you actually think the great depression was Hoovers doing you need to go back to the history books.
@Multiverse7 As for Penn, who knows, but I don’t see Yale having any trouble these days so Penn should be fine.
@stanfordfoodie sleuthing game strong hahah
It’s amazing that Stanford alums are so powerful and influential that some of them can single-handedly manipulate and destroy the socio-economic infrastructure of the wealthiest nation on the planet.
Hail, STANFORD, hail!
