Cutthroat atmosphere?

I was recently accepted to the Northeastern University Scholars Program and Honors Program as a Health Science major. I may be pre- med; is there a cutthroat atmosphere at northeastern? Do people collaborate before exams and help each other or is it every person for the self?

Some people prefer to study alone and hate sharing their notes, just like some people will sleep through every class and cry on the day of the exam. But there is no actual fighting for grades like you’d image at super strict schools (which is actually pretty rare). No one is purposely feeding bad information to help themselves on the curve.

Thanks for the reply. Any other insight? Would you say people are cutthroat in terms of getting co-ops? Are people generally friendly! I am competitive and I like it, but I don’t want a super competitive atmosphere where no one helps each other/collaborates.

Bumppppppppp

I’ve generally found people to be fairly open in sharing information while they search for coop jobs. Now, obviously we won’t do things that would increase the competition for a job we’re trying to get, but short of that I’ve found most people are fairly helpful.

Yeah everyone is actually really nice about co-ops, because we all know how stressful it is. People will cover for others when they have to run out of a room to talk an interview call (it happens all the time during “co-op season”). They’ll run through other people’s resumes for them and give each other good lines. My favorite is when people share their best “so do you have any questions for me?” lines. Last year, someone came out of a two-person interview at the same time as me when I realized I forgot to get their contact information, and the other student was very kind about letting me copy the interviewer’s contact info-- even though a rookie mistake like that could have easily knocked me out of the running.

Now, if you get the same interview as someone, they will hope you mess it up. But no one is going to screw you up or treat you like dirt if you get the job and they don’t.
