<p>My D quit playing soccer a year ago after playing at a very high level since the age of 9. She is now going to start at a college that has a D II woman's soccer team. How high a level of competition is D II? Does DII soccer highly recruit? In general terms, if she has taken a year off...would she be so far out of the loop that she should not even contact the coach? She is starting to have regrets about quitting club soccer and I want to encourage her to contact the coach....but I don't know if in D II he would even look at her? I know it can't hurt to contact him but she doesn't want to be embarrassed. What do you think?</p>
<p>She might make varsity. One of sons teamates just made a DII team from community college. Dose her school have club soccer? Different from high school age club. More competitive than intramural .</p>
<p>Shrinkrap–You’re from Nor Cal, it is SFSU. My D told me they had intramural, single gender and co-ed. She was definitely going to look into that option also, but I don’t think she knew about college “club”. I will have her check. After a year and a lifetime of soccer, she misses it ;)</p>

<p>FWIW, my son has played since he was just five, and at the club level since he was about 9, and playing in college was the most important thing to him…until he got there. He still plays, but he has become deeply involved in a lot of other things as well…including schoolwork! Who knew?</p>
<p>Unless something has changed in the last 5 years, D2 soccer teams can hold tryouts throughout the year, so recruits/walk-ons can work out with the team at a regular practice. So if the rule has not changed, your daughter definitely should contact the coach and see if she can workout/tryout with the team during spring season. </p>
<p>To clarify, the rules do not (or at least did not) allow a D1 or D3 soccer recruit to practice or workout with the team until official preaseason in the Fall.</p>
