<p>Hmmm…interesting. As I was reading this, I was wondering if the average patient even knows the difference (or that there is a difference) between MD’s and DO’s. I hope that prospective med students don’t see this and decide not to apply to DO schools if their scores aren’t stellar. If you want to be a doctor, either path will get you there.</p>
<p>Agreed. Highly doubt most outside the medical field know the difference. They just want to know if you can fix/prescribe/operate on [insert medical problem].</p>
<p>As a practicing DO for 20 years(by choice,not inferior stats,admitted to Ivy undergrad) many of us choose this profession for its holistic approach to medicine, and yes many patients do not realize the difference , they just know their doc cares.</p>
<p>Yeah, I only learned about DO after joining this forum a few days ago, and I’m a senior in high school planning to enter medicine. I’d always assumed doctors are doctors and have the same degree.</p>
