Hello,
I am a high school senior currently going through the d3 football recruiting process. Financial aid is going to be a big factor in my college decision, and I need some help. So far, the best aid I have received at any of the institutions was from my GPA and test score. However, at all of the colleges I am looking at after the initial aid I receive still leaves the price at $30,000+. I do not expect to receive anything from FASFA, as my parents make a good amount of money. How much more money can I expect the college to provide me? Will playing football help me receive any more aid at all? Any more advice?
D3 schools do not give athletic aid. If you don’t think you’ll qualify for need based financial aid, I don’t think you’ll be receiving more aid.
I know that they do not give “athletic aid”, but have been told they sweeten the pot for athletes using leadership scholarships, grants, etc.

There might be a private scholarship for a sport, but those are in the lower range, $500-$1000. If you think a school will give you more, ask them. I think you’ll be disappointed if you are expecting a lot from elite schools based solely on athletics.
To get more merit money, you need to look at schools where they give plenty of merit money, and where your scores (GPA and test scores) put you in the top 20% of the class. That may mean you need to look at different schools, first focusing on economics, then on football. If you put your scores on this site, you likely will get advice on corresponding schools.
You will not get any extra money for being an athlete at a d3 school. The best you can hope for is that the coach can help you find every last penny that you are eligible from the school. This is money you would have been eligible for anyway if you were persistent enough with the fin aid dept.
