Question....if a Div3 coach invites a potential recruit to come for an OV, but doesn't mention anything about expenses, is it acceptable to come right out and ask whether travel is being covered?

What do the NCAA rules say for recruiting for the sport?

OVs starting Sr year…
for D3

IDK about expenses…you could call the eligibity center.

fogfog:

It is not technically a NCAA-sponsored sport. However, from what I understand, it appears they need to respect the rules of the division the college plays in. Does that make sense?

I was more concerned about whether it’s okay to ask a coach outright if expenses will be covered.

Travel is not covered in D3, nor are parents’ expenses (hotel). On my daughter’s visits, all her meals and campus activities were covered by the school, but we were responsible for getting her there.

Our student’s OVs…paid by school, the flight arrangements were made by them, ground transfers, housing, meals, mtg with coaches, attending classes etc.

One school we flew our student in, covered all expenses on the ground and the only thing the school did was arrange for k1 to sleep on the couch somewhere and attend some classes.

We never went on the OVs.
However I would expect all parental expenses are covered by the parents. Our student never saw other athletes parents at OVs

Capital Foodie–If the sport is not an NCAA sport, and its D3…then likely ALL expenses, flights, ground transfers, meals there etc are your expense. They would probably house you with a current student/teammate and you could go to class with them. Regardless, the school will be careful to follow recruiting guidelines. You could ask the coach about costs …however that is my guess. This is a non-revenue sport, eh?
