dang i suck at CR

uhm pretty much said in the title. on average im missing about 8 per section O_O yikes.....im trying to concentrate more on the long passages cause i really dont mind getting 3-4 wrong on the vocab per section. but im trying to get perfect on the passages and its....pretty challenging haha but yea im trying. literature passages completely pwn me and i really hate it when i dont quite get the passage so im just stuck.....uhhh so far my strategy is going to the questions first then marking the passage and read. its....kinda working but i just think most of its my fault for not "critically" thinking about the answer choices lol lame no? anyway uhh any other suggestions on how to smack the crap out of the passages so they wont be a burden to me again? last time i got a 550 in november, and im hoping to raise it to low to mid 600s and if i somehow can get it in the 700s il just crap my pants and worship a rock (jk) but you get my position. thankss

at first i thought you were complaining about getting 8 wrong in the whole critical reading section. I was about to smack you…lol. My method is read the passage first then attack the questions. I feel reading the questions first makes the whole point of reading the passage just looking for those answers. Try to understand the passage, then the questions will come easier

Just keep practicing. We all started somewhere.

I would suggest marking the lines from line reference q’s quickly by glancing at the questions first, but don’t read the entire q. Pay more attention to the lines you have marked (it should take about 20 seconds) and you can usually tell what the question will be. Reading the questions before you read will most likely waste your time as you will have reread the question again later

I would suggest reading the first sentence of each paragraph, skimming the rest, and then going to the questions.

Reading the passages in advance will give you a better idea of the passages, but you end up rereading the same parts far more than necessary.

I think it just takes practice to figure out how to get into the minds of the test writers and answer the questions according to how they would write the questions. Practicing and making myself understand the correct answers for the questions I answered incorrectly has helped a ton. I started at a low 600 for Critical Reading, worked my way up to mid-high 600s, and I just got a 760 on practice SAT I just finished! (I’m sure that will end up being an anomaly, but it would be amazing if I could get that on the actual SAT.)

I don’t think it’s so much about how to attack as it is doing as many passages as possible, and reviewing the mistakes. I went through all the CB stuff (new and old), which helped a lot. I also used 5 SAT Reading Practice Tests, which helped me understand the kinds of questions I kept getting wrong.

So keep working hard and you will get better. Best of luck!
