same here, rejected with a fee waiver for the fall
I definitely would’ve wrote about it in the prompt that asked us to discuss a place that was unique to you
Also, do you guys know if there’s anyway to get feedback on our apps? I know after QB rejected me I asked for feedback and in the most complicated way possible they said no. Not expecting there to be a resource to do so but was wondering if yall knew anything about it
I’m deciding between ED and RD. I know D has a good theatre program but it’s also in the middle of nowhere which is not good for community theatre opportunities so I’m not like “ahhhh I have to go here or my career is over” but I’m still interested
Ah, yeah. Maybe when you really apply you’ll have a similar opportunity! And also, I don’t think so, but I was wondering the same.
I don’t know about applying yet. I know that I most likely will not ED, but I’m unsure about RD.
Your sexuality is not considered an ‘underrepresented background’.
I have to disagree with the above post. It is exactly what they are looking for these days. And yes, people are going to begin lying in order to get in.
@collegemom3717 I’m sorry if I offended you ma’am, but I thinking getting beat up countless times for years in school by other girls for being a lesbian and getting treated as lesser by school staff is enough to count myself as “underrepresented”. I could go on, but this is a forum for rejected applicants for Dartmouth Bound, and the reason I’m here is so I can better myself for when I apply to Dartmouth College.
@sugarbearbench, I wasn’t offended! I was only trying to reassure you didn’t make a mistake. I don’t pretend to have any idea who you are, or what your path has been, and I am genuinely sorry that you have had a hard road.
Saying that “underrepresented” refers to other factors in no way implies that you have had an easy road. ‘Underrepresented’ simply refers to a fact: women are underrepresented in STEM. People of color are underrepresented in university. People from lower incomes are underrepresented in university. As a group, LGBTQ students are a minority but they are not ‘underrepresented’. The last study that I am aware of (2016) estimated that 10% of college students identify as LGBTQ, well above the estimated 4% of the general population.
That does not mean that those students have had an easy time- many LGBTQ students have a hard time at college as well. And no, @goodjob, colleges are not “looking” for LGBTQ students in particular- they are looking for students. AOs (at most colleges- there are some obvious exceptions) are genuinely not that interested. And they read a lot of essays about it.
@sugarbearbench, when you apply to Dartmouth, if you decide to write your essay about the bullying you have been through, remember that the point of the essay is to help the AO see parts of you that won’t be found in your recommendations, and to see somebody that will add to the campus community. The usual advice is to make sure that your essay focuses on what you have done with those experiences: how they have shaped who you have become and what you are doing going forward- more on the present and future. Good luck
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
While it’s unfortunate that you went through that, your experiences, and how they define you, may make an interesting essay topic, but being lesbian, or LGBTQ+ in general, is not underrepresented at most colleges of Dartmouth’s ilk.
On another note, might I remind members of the forum rules: “Our forum is expected to be a friendly and welcoming place.”
This is a stressful time for everyone, so let’s support each other instead of throwing shade at one another. The snark ends now. Several posts edited.
Accepted!!!
I don’t know why a thread wasn’t made already but here it is! I know decisions come out “early June” but I have no idea what that means. Last year it came out June 1st, but the year before it was the 6th or the 7th so nobody can really tell. I know they originally had a due date of May 1st but extended it to the 7th, so maybe that’ll have some impact on a delay, idk! Good luck to everyone that applied!!
Is the Dartmouth Bound Program a feeder into Dartmouth College
Hi!
I just got rejected from Dartmouth Bound, but the notification also said, “we will waive the first-year application fee when you apply for admission to the Class of 2024.” I was just wondering—is this really due to the “strength” of my application or does everyone who gets rejected get their application fee waived? Also, has anybody who got rejected from Dartmouth Bound gotten into the school itself? I’m not too disappointed, but I’m unsure of whether I want to actually apply.
Thanks!
@arcanine384 congrats!! i’ve seen forums where it mentions being a feeder and i’ve seen some where it says it has no correlation at all, so i’m not really sure!! it’s a great opportunity so nonetheless your application has a good chance at admissions
@arcanine384 got accepted too
I got rejected… I had a 1560 on the SAT and strong ECs, so I’m kinda bummed. Could people who were accepted post their scores/stats? Could the fact that my family’s income has recently gotten higher (but still not great) have something to do with it? Are they accepting more low-income students?
I got accepted to the program and honestly I didn’t even have an SAT score to give in. My PSAT was around the 1200s (which is below accepted students’ average), but I do come from a school that is majority minority
