Dartmouth College Ending AP Credit

I don’t think this is a good move. I used all my AP credits to go into the more advanced classes and I have aced them so far. A 5 on an AP means that you know it as well as anyone who has passed the equivalent college intro class. (I don’t go to Dartmouth but a peer school)

that’s not strictly correct. The BE is 9 courses beyond the ENGS Major. They CAN be included in the 35+ classes you take to graduate. Effectively, doing the BE in four years is a double-major in engineering.

Interesting

Zenzic: although you may have been able to perform well in the more advanced classes that doesn’t mean that everyone who get’s 5’s is capable of performing similarly well in those classes.
I know I aced both AP Economics exams and was well above the benchmark required to get a 5. I wouldn’t be too happy if I had to retake those classes because I really want to experiment with more advanced economics courses (prospective econ major). That being said, there are exams where people barely get 5s and wouldn’t be able to perform well in the more advanced classes.

All I want is an expansion of college created placement tests if they want to eliminate the use of ap credit.

zenzic, it sounds as if you are confusing placement with "credit*. APs are used for placement at D now, in some subjects, and presumably they will continue to do so.

Guess I won’t have to worry about my APs anymore then, I have only a 3, two 4’s and one 5. At least if I go to Dartmouth.
