Dartmouth's website states it needs a letter of rec from a peer. Could I have a letter of rec from a peer my age, and another rec from a mentor?

Read the directions.

The website tells you what is required. The peer recommendation is exactly that: a personal evaluation by a friend/equal/peer who knows you well (and probably knows things about you that are not apparent to a teacher or mentor or that might factor into whether you should be at the college). I don’t believe extraneous recommendations are prohibited, but I think you need to proceed with caution. When I look at applications for clerkships, I tend to get annoyed when people send me things I have not asked for in an attempt to influence my decision. If I wanted certain information, I would ask for it. But, I’m not a college admissions person, so I don’t know whether the same dynamic applies. If the mentor’s recommendation would really add something unique (and not just “I think XX Doe is the greatest”), you might chance it. Anyone else out there have an opinion? I could be totally wrong (one of the risks you take asking for advice here).
