Dartmouth or Duke??

Which is more prestigious?

At what? . . .

Dartmouth by a mile.

By a mile? I think Duke and Dartmouth are relatively equivalent when it comes to getting a job upon graduation.

Plus, Duke has a far more "prestigious" basketball team which should be enough to sway you on its own.

Of course, the school with the most Prestige is in South Africa.

what the heck
in other posts you talk about how you're excited for duke, already going, whatever...
what's the deal?

also, DukeEgr, I'm in luv. too bad i'm in trinity. weepweep

Also...as much as I hate to do this, the "by a mile" thing needed a response. Exhibit A: http://www.epfl.ch/soc/etudes/pdf/world-rankings05.pdf

SAT's:
Dartmouth 1330 - 1550
Duke 1380 - 1550

Acceptance Rate:
Dartmouth 16%
Duke 19%

Most Undergrad Rankings:
Dartmouth: Somewhere between 5 and 10
Duke: Somewhere between 5 and 10

Most Grad Rankings (which aren't important when deciding undergrad but should be mentioned anyways since it has to do with prestige):
Dartmouth: Somewhere in the top 25
Duke: Somewhere in the top 25

Law, Business, Med School rankings
Dartmouth: Somewhere in top 5-15
Duke: Somewhere in top 5-15

They are pretty much similar

frankly, for the average joe, the name Duke is more recongnizable than Dartmouth.

Accionara, will you please stop with the "which is more prestigious: duke or ...?" topics? Is prestige really that important to you? If it is then you really should have chosen Harvard (which some people on this board still don't believe you got in). Just a few weeks ago you started a similar thread comparing the prestige of brown vs duke, and what good did it accomplish? I know that you're still on the Dartmouth waitlist. But does hearing people tell you that Duke is more prestigious than Dmouth make you feel better? (because you got into the former and not the latter.) Really, I'm sure most of us new acceptees and current Dukies chose Duke for much better reasons than its prestige over school X or Y.

I kind of agree with Chlor, only in a slightly nicer tone. What's with the comparisons?

But if it helps any, this is why I picked Duke over Dartmouth:

Duke has the nature thing that is nice about Dartmouth, only not nearly as cold, isolated, and small. Also, I dislike the D-Plan: sure it's flexible but really, I don't like the idea of my class leaving at random points for random places... something about campus unity. I dunno. The sports aren't as fun. Did I mention that it's really cold and isolated? Duke is more fun. And although people drink a lot at Duke, I doubt it's as bad as it is at Dartmouth.

Oh, I just think this is fun, that's all. I like to hear what people think. Prestige is important, but so is liking the school. Chlor didn't you get into Yale. Why did you choose Duke? Because the atmospher was just better suited for you. Yes, I got into Harvard (don't be bitter because you didn't) and I chose Duke over it, just because undergraduates seem to be really unhappy with H. Now I'm asking about Duke, and Dartmouth. Visited both. Liked them both. They are similar in academics, so I'm trying to find some distinguishing characteristics.

prestige wise, whenever anybody here hears Dartmouth, they ask "who's mouth?". That shouldn't matter, though. Duke's just a better school, it's hard to express why, it just is!

What's wrong with prestige? Prestige gets you jobs. Prestige brings you places in life. Absolutely you have to put in something on your own end, but what's up with the bashing? You don't think name recognition is important to employers? Obviously your splitting hairs between Duke and Dartmouth, but that doesn't make it a silly question.

Yes Diezel, but accionara got into Harvard so if prestige is so important to him/her, then accionara should just attend Harvard.

B/c it appears that accionara values prestige so much, some dont believe the Harvard acceptance

you got into Harvard, talk almost all the time about prestige at 'lesser' institutions yet choose not to go there?

Duke even sounds better. It commands some sort of respect.

yeah because i'm waitlisted at dartmouth too so when i checked the boards to see if people were getting accepted already, the original poster seemed really anxious to know if the waitlist acceptees had come out already. i dunno dudes...it's like, if you chose duke over HARVARD then you probably know that duke is the place for you, so why are you obsessing over dartmouth? ah perhaps obsessing is a bit strong but you certainly come off that way in your posts. i agree with chlor, i think you just like hearing that the school you did get into is better. and i still don't get the whole harvard thing...yeeea.

oh and one of his previous posts he said "Stop comparing Duke to other schools *****es! It is by far the best."

erm doesn't this sound a little bit hypocritical? just a brief glance into his posts will show that he's freaking like obsessed about the versus threads. there's a point where it's fun, and then there's a point where it just gets to be obnoxiously annoying.

I just wanna say that I absolutley fell in love with Duke when I went there.... when it comes down to top 10-15 schools in the country, forget prestige and pick where you love.
