People may remember that Peter Townshend was caught up in one of those sting operations, although he was a victim, rather than a consumer, of childhood sexual abuse.
It is difficult to avoid a rush to judgement when a repugnant crime is involved, but I think we ought to try.
@gouf78 , I just Googled it, the charges were dropped mostly because the prosecutors messed up. They apparently bungled the timing of the warrant and monitoring his computer somehow, and the judges ruled that the photos they found (6 pictures) were not admissible. I don’t think he ended up with any probation or sex offender listing, but he “retired” from the college and did not go back.
Gnoochi–In FL the court can “withhold the adjudication of guilt”. Basically tthe court doesn’t give you a guilty verdict and convict you of the crime. Its a lesser result that allows someone to maybe expunge their record later.
FL has some draconian sex offender laws. Transgressions from the kids in the back seat of a car to actual bad guys are on a list for life. It says SEX OFFENDER across your driver’s license. Try to get a life with that.
I want to see MURDERER or I ROB PEOPLE across driver’s licenses–it would be much more useful and protect more people. I want to know that those people have moved into my neighborhood–not some guy watching porn on his computer.
