Dartmouth Transfer Help

Hey,

I am a first year at University of St. Andrews in Scotland. St. Andrews is a top 10 school in the U.K. right behind Oxford and Cambridge (Prince William goes here). I went to a very good prep school in America and I am American. Reason for going abroad was to seem better more unique transfer candidate.

1420 SAT (720 Verbal 690 Math
690 Math SAT II
730 Writing SAT II
710 French SAT II

English Literature AP-5
French Language AP- 4
3-D Design AP- 4

B+ Average my junior and senior high school years

3.3 GPA at University BUT you only take three classes a semester here and the breakdown for grades was:
B+ International Relations
A+ Modern History (top 2-3% of department of 250 first year students)
B- French (Brought down GPA)
-I am adding economics as a fourth course this semester, something that is rarely done by students.

I have amazing teacher recs from here, both from teachers who know me very well and are highly respected published Dr.s (The international relations teacher gave me A's on essays and said in the 2 page rec he wrote that he thought I was a major loss for the department if I transferred, said my final grade was not representative of how I did in the class) I also audited a fourth year terrorism studies class last semester. St. Andrews’ IR department is ranked the best in Europe.
I also drove up to and met with teachers in Dartmouth’s Government Department last month when I was home.

-Elected Student Council First year Representative (same as class president) of 1350 student class
-Elected School if International Relations First year representative to the Faculty Council (from IR class of 323)
-First year captain of competitive rifle team
-Intern at Center for Terrorism studies (top non governmental center of its type in the world), only first year intern
-Model UN, lead delegations to conferences, won Diplomacy award at Oxford International Model UN, no prior Model UN experience prior to this year.

I forgot to add, even though it may seem obvious from the heading, that I am applying to Dartmouth for transfer.

Out of curiosity, why are you applying transfer to Dartmouth? I mean, you seem to be thriving at St. Andrews, and honestly it's a better school than Dartmouth...

Just out of curiosity, why do you view St. Andrews as better? This has been a big factor in my debate over transfering and would really appreciate anything else you may have to say about why St. Andrews is better. Also, purely to put to rest some of my anxiety over my application, I must ask the always asked "Do you think I will be accepted?" in applying for transfer.

Thanks,

I am applying to Dartmouth because 1. The degree structure is far too focused 2. The resources like the library are sadly underfunded and are really lacking 3. Students are unmodivated 4. For personal and future graduate and professional reasons being in the U.S. is more important 5. Teacher interaction is really limited, classes are really lecture based with minimal interaction with teachers and weak continuos assesment.

Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Georgetown and many others fulfill the conditions you desire. Why do you specifically want to transfer to Dartmouth?

Dartmouth is awesome. I transferred from Columbia to Dartmouth. If you have any questions, just ask. I think you have a decent shot, but you need to prop up the GPA this semester. Get notes from your profs talking about your mid-year progress. My biggest concern is your high school record and SAT, which you need to overcome with good grades.

And there is no way St. Andrews is better than Dartmouth for undergrad, especially in the US.

slipper, is there any particular reason for your not responding to my inquiry over e-mail?
