Let loose the moose!!! :D

Great links!

The moose looks good! Lumberjack isnt bad either!

the idea of a new mascot is stupid.

first of all, nobody really wants to be represented by a moose ... they are flat out stupid animals. they're scary because they're big, ornery, blind, and sort of dumb - not exactly the type of image we like to promote at Dartmouth.

the lumberjack is also pretty dumb ... it works great for the forestry team, but other teams .. not so well. Also, it doesn't really represent the school well at all.

having a color as a mascot is fine. just because SA decides to spend a gross amount of money on a moose costume does not mean that the moose will actually be a mascot, thank god.

I think we should be the Dartmouth I-Bankers. Or Penguins? Yetis?

McLovins!!

Moose are smart, peaceful, fast runners and swimmers, plus eat a healthy diet

Russian-born scientist Valerius Geist, a longtime contributor to National Geographic honors the moose's highly developed intelligence ("moose," he writes, "are programmed for learning").

According to ancient beliefs, the moose is a symbol of confidence, self esteem and steadfast determination. Purposeful and direct, the moose takes pride in accomplishment, but always maintains strong values and integrity. Moose reminds us that contemplative silence guides and informs our decisions. From a place of quiet reflection, we may proceed on our path with the winds of determination and confidence behind us.

Drop the bombshell!!!

rightnotleft : They being scary is a good enough reason to have it as a mascot.

I second galwain626

Hey, be careful what you say - "a moose ... sort of dumb"! We love ours! GO M's!!!

Dartmouth takes pride in its "small college" heritage, right? Well, unusual animal mascots are a long-established tradition at small colleges in New England.

Seems like there would be a place for the Dartmouth Moose next to the Williams Purple Cow, the Bowdoin Polar Bear, the Colby White Mule, the Trinity Bantam, or the Connecticut College Camel.

Ivy League mascots are cliched. How original are Lions and Tigers and Bears ? The Moose would stand out.

I agree . I would love to have the moose for a mascot. While visiting
Alaska last year, one of my favorite front page headlines in Anchorage's newspaper was " Elderly neighbor devastated. Moose tramples pet poodle in backyard".
