Is it generally considered to be a legit program, or just a useless experiment? Are employers respecting the degree or are they passing them over in favor of traditional statistics or CS guys?
If you know anything else about the program, I’m all ears (well, eyes I suppose)
The program is new and hasn’t graduated anyone. So, in that sense, it is too early to tell how employers are going to respond to it.
The program was developed with the premise `businesses need folks who can do Statistics, but aren’t restricted to using existing packages like R and SAS, and instead can write their own code to manipulate data’. By all indications, this combination of skills should be demand. In addition, students (in the business analytics track) are getting exposure to business issues, and do a capstone project applying analytics to a business problem.
Some students are also treating it as a good `pre-MBA’ major – you get background in data-driven decision making and technology, together with decent amount of business exposure.
Hope it helps. You can try posting the question on reddit.com to see if you might response from a student in the program.
By *** I mean red dit.com (remove the blank).
It’s a new major. If you’re interested in business analytics it’s better to major in business and do a minor in business analytics. Being in Fisher opens up a LOT of opportunities. Can’t say much about the other two specializations
