Hello! My daughter has her heart set on USF. We believe her GPA and scores are too low, but she won’t listen and won’t take the SAT again. She has received a lot of conflicting information. Her GPA is about a 3.3 recalculated on USF’s scale. She received a 1380 on the SAT with a 930 on math/reading. Her ACT was around an 18. She has taken a few AP courses, but has not passed any of the tests to receive college credit (she did pass the classes). She was on the swim team for 4 years (including being captain her senior year), she was on the tennis team for one year, and the weightlifting team for one year. She is very artistic, but not much to show in the way of awards or anything like that. She had a part-time job her junior year. Does she have any change of getting into USF? Also, when would she be able to reapply for admission if she was denied for fall?
Which USF are you referring to?
She has a decent chance. USF has a 60% acceptance rate, so it’s not as selective as some other schools. Her SAT"s and ACT scores are really low though. Is the SAT out of 2400 scale or 1600 scale? A 1380/2400 converts to basically a 19 on the ACT. Her GPA seems to be low but it’s still not as bad and I think she has a decent shot with her GPA. The SAT is the one thing she should work on. If she gets denied for some reason she can always appeal the decision, but you would have to show proof of higher test scores and and strong 1st semester senior year grades as well as the first half of second semester. With a high SAT score, she could get into some other decent universities too.
She should be able to appeal after decisions come out. You would just need proof of why she should be accepted by means of higher test scores and an improved senior year grades.
Yeah which USF. Florida or San Francisco ?
Either case though, her SAT is pretty low but I know someone who got into Florida with a 19 ACT but they had special circumstances. Her SAT would pull her down to the 15-25% tier which means that she has less chance of being admitted compared to people in 75th percentile. IF her SAT went up then she has a good chance. Good Luck!
I’m thinking perhaps Florida as OP’s username is UCF (Central Florida?). Those numbers look too low for USF San Francisco, not sure about Florida.
Yes, University of South Florida. Sorry about that. Thanks for the input!
