Davidson 2022 RD Applicants

Good luck RD applicants!! Hope to see you all at Davidson this fall.

Isn’t decision coming out in about 40 minutes?

Yes

Well, just remember that where you go will not define who you are or even the kind of person you will be. Although the name of a college might add to the overall impression of a person’s character and their successes, there are also many other factors that will define the success of a young adult. Good luck to everyone and congratulations to the future Davidson class of 2022!

Accepted !!!

Accepted!

D was accepted too!

D was accepted. Joy abounds here tonight!!!

D accepted. She will be visiting her two top schools one more time before making her decision.

D was wait listed - not accepting spot. Congrats to all.

D waitlisted.

I was waitlisted.

waitlisted

two amazing girls from our HS were waitlisted… both are top students an in the IB Program, great ECs, both heavily involved in the arts (ballet and theater); one a Nat Merit Finalist; top 1% of class. Would love to be a fly on the wall to understand how they choose. Congrats to the ones who got accepted!

Question for anyone who might be in the know about financial aid, including merit: Will they notify a student of both at same time? The acceptance letter it seemed to say merit aid notification could be as late at April 10 but need-baed earlier?

I would think it makes sense for a student’s complete financial picture to come out at once, not staggered, but maybe Davidson does it differently?

D is excited about Davidson!

Tks for any insight, and congrats to all those accepted.

What are the chances of being accepted after being waitlisted?

I have no data on Davidson specifically, but for top liberal arts colleges in 2015-6 the average appears to be about a 2.7% acceptance rate for those who were initially offered waitlist spots and a 6% rate among students who accepted waitlist spots. In other words, the odds weren’t good at all. I believe that is still the case, but I suppose it’s possible that things have changed since then.

My son was waitlisted (34 ACT, 3.78 UW, OOS). Does anyone know if Davidson ranks or prioritizes the waitlist?

My understanding is that most (and perhaps all) schools do not really rank the waitlist. Admissions offices try to put together an ensemble incoming class rather than a set of individuals. That is, it seeks to put together an incoming class that is diverse in many different ways (not just ethnic, socioeconomic, etc.). Suppose, for example, that Admissions looks at the set of students who have committed to enroll and finds that there are relatively few Hispanic students, few dancers, and few students interested in the Classics. The Admissions office might look at the profiles of waitlisted students to see which students have those characteristics. If by chance there is a Hispanic who says he/she would to double-major in theatre and the classics, that person might very well be admitted off the waitlist. The idea is not to find the best 450 students; it’s to find a well-rounded set of 450 students who together provide the makings of a great learning environment.

D waitlisted but still very interested
