Davis vs cal poly slo

I am an out of state mechanical engineering major trying to decide between these two schools. Does anyone have advice on which one to choose? I have visited both campuses and still have no idea what to do.

Cal Poly is known for their engineering… Davis is more of agricultural related majors so I would say Cal Poly.

more competition at cal poly being that it’s known for their engineering program & it’s a state university. But engineering programs everywhere is pretty competitive. I think Davis is better. It’s not just known for agriculture, their engineering program is better than UCI and UCSB (They’re ranked similar to Davis). Have you talked to the professors?

“Cal Poly is known for their engineering… Davis is more of agricultural related majors so I would say Cal Poly”

Actually, Cal Poly is a huge agricultural college with over 20% of its students enrolled in its Agricultural, Food & Environmental Sciences College. The whole campus smells like one big cow plop. The college has two ranches at the campus that total about 4700 acres… and two others near Santa Cruz that total another 3700 acres.

Davis has a much better overall engineering program. This is due to its increased competition, more sought-after factulty, significantly higher research funding, and generally has more prestige than a state school.

My son is finishing up his second year in Civil Engineering at UCD. He loves it, and he is happy with the profs & classes.
