In an attempt to satisfy my paranoia over possibly forgetting something -- Is there a
definitive list somewhere of deadlines? I'd hate to miss a deadline and end up being denied admission or something. I was accepted to Pitt but I still have not made my deposit and someone told me his housing was due in like a week, so I am pretty confused because I thought I read it wasn't due until May. So if anyone knows some definitive deadlines (not limited to the ones I mentioned) that'd be great, thank you..

According to the Residence Hall Living Brochure that comes with the big packet of information (dining, panther card, etc).....

"The University guarantees housing for three years to all qualified first-year prospective freshman who are admitted for the fall term and pay their $300 enrollment fee and their $325 housing deposit by May 1."...etc.

"First year students who pay their deposits after the deadline will lose their housing guarantee and will be assigned rooms as they become available."

Boognish--hope this helps !

Actually, the housing deposit deadline date is related to your acceptance date. The earlier you are accepted, the earlier your housing deposit is due. (By the way, the housing deposit IS refundable) However, just like the vast majority of schools in the US, the deadline for the admissions deposit is May 1st.

In other words, for most people, there will be two different deadline dates for the two deposits. Check your admissions and housing literature closely to see what your individual housing deadline is.

I thought May 1st was the deadline. However, D1's packet had an April 1 deadline. She was accepted Early October. I would check your housing packet to be sure.

I don't know... my son was accepted Oct. 1. Where do you have this information/which set of papers ? I was looking in the Panther Central pamphlet. Please let me know. Thanks !

Actually, my hope is to take care of that when we visit this weekend for Day for Admitted Students. But I still would like to know if we have a May or April deadline.

That seems odd, I guess, because even though my son was accepted in October, we don't have a final financial aid decision, nor has all his other colleges sent their acceptance/denial letters...so he has no idea where he is going.

He couldn't send a deposit until/if he decides to go to Pitt and that won't be until April.

I am going to check his packet because I will be very surprised if he has to committ to going to Pitt before the University committs to financial aid/scholarships and before the official May 1st deadline.

Thanks to everyone who responded, I was accepted awhile ago so I guess I should just do it now to be safe. I thought my acceptance letter said May 1st, but now it seems I can't find my packet so, yeah, I'm just going to pay them.

Boognish

I checked my son's huge pile of stuff from Pitt and it all says MAY 1st as the deadline. I wonder if you heard about housing for returning students or something like that? Because I just simply can't imagine you would have an earlier deadline. Freshman housing is guaranteed for all that get their deposits in by May 1st.

Having said that...if you know you are going there is no harm in sending the deposit. As son as my son decides where he is going we will send in his deposit.

Jamiecakes

Last year, my daughter was accepted in October. We received our piles of stuff from Pitt, and in her case, her deadline for the housing application deposit was April 1, NOT May 1. As I stated earlier, many people will have two different deposit deadlines for Pitt - one for the housing and one for the admissions deposit. Yes, in some cases, Pitt housing does have an earlier deadline than May 1, even for incoming freshmen. The housing deposit is refundable, but if you want to ensure that you maintain the housing guarantee, make sure that you send in your housing deposit by the deadline specified for you.

My understanding is that you do not receive any documents from housing until you have paid your admission deposit. She did the admission deposit in January and did not receive her housing contract until early March.

Does anyone know when they send our the dorm assignments. Are they in mass on a specific date or staggered?

Oh, thanks QuietTypes.

It just seems odd that a college would give a deadline before a student would have a chance to get letters back from other schools or even before they require you to accept admission.

He doesn't have housing deposit deadlines.. he hasn't gotten a housing folder or specific information at all. I guess I will call and check.

It seems very strange though. Thanks for the heads up.

First-Year Students
Prospective freshmen who are admitted for the fall term and pay their $300 enrollment fee and their $325 housing deposit by May 1st are guaranteed on-campus housing. This guarantee is good for three years provided that all housing application and deposit deadlines in each subsequent year are met. Panther Central assigns all first-year on-campus students to rooms in the residence halls. The Housing and Dining Services Contract is for both fall and spring terms.

Just came back from our visit to Pitt. We went to Panther Central and they pointed out that our deadline is April 1. I seemed to have skipped over that page :-)

The housing date depends upon when you sent in your deposit for your place in school. Housing doesn't send anything out until that initial deposit is received. If you sent your deposit early, you will have an early deadline for housing versus those who haven't sent in their initial deposit yet. Keep an eye out for your deadline as you don't want to lose out on the housing guarantee.

I was wondering how I pay this $325 deposit. It’s really bugging me. I checked the website pitt.start and it said they mailed my packet today. May 1 is next Thursday though.
