Each College would have their own list, of that I am 99% sure. But that does seem to kind of shoot my theory about the privacy, unless it is different for the SCS because the students are older. I don’t know the regulations involving student privacy that well.
I see so many colleges publish their Dean’ List so I cant imagine it’s a privacy thing?
I guess not, then. It’s a little surprising, since grades are supposed to be private. I know it isn’t specific, but I would have thought it would still be interpreted that way. But like I said, it isn’t as if I have read the actual text of those privacy acts.
While nothing has been received yet this semester, in the past, my son’s Dean’s list letters have been addressed to them but delivered to our home address. As far as I know that was the only notification we received.
Just an FYI - I just noticed that Dean’s List is now listed on the unofficial academic transcript on Gibson; although it would have been nice, no letter was received at school or at the home address. Hope this information helps.
Huh, Never would have thought to look there. A letter would have been nice.
There were always letters with my D as far as I can recall, although frankly I don’t specifically recall getting any her last couple of semesters. Maybe this is an attempt to be more green? If so, they should at least e-mail the students (mentioning the Gibson notation at the same time) who could then forward it to their parents.
Son just reported he got the e-mail about making Dean’s List!
Just out of curiosity, when was the e-mail dated? And congrats to him, of course.
How was your trip down there? I know the weather wasn’t spectacular, but it beat the weather up here by miles.
Yup…there it is on the unofficial transcript! I don’t think that we got anything official either, although I just assumed that he was on based on his GPA.
I asked him to forward it to me but he hasn’t yet so I’ll let you know. Trip was wonderful. It got chilly but we didn’t let it stop us from having fun. Home now- it’s in the negative temps, I’m sick, having furnace problems and a pipe just burst in my kitchen! I’m heading back to NOLA!
Ugh, I had a pipe burst last year. I am also quite sick of this weather. Snow is piled so high in some places I am sure I am going to get creamed pulling out of a parking lot. And they predict more snow this weekend.
On a lighter note, the Tulane Marching Band was briefly (and I mean briefly) shown on that new show NCIS New Orleans. That was fun to see.
We saw them in a few parades. Watched Muses with a Tulane alum on one side of us with his parents and two Tulane grad students on the other. All very nice folks!
The e-mail about the Dean’s List came out at 12:00 today. Here it is:
It is always a great pleasure for me to recognize students for their academic accomplishments. I am delighted to inform you that your achievements last semester have earned you a place on the Dean’s list for Fall 2014. This is a significant honor at Tulane since you are competing against the best students in the United States.
Newcomb-Tulane College is proud of the achievements of our students, especially those on the Dean’s list, who through their successes exemplify the highest goals of the College. On behalf of Newcomb-Tulane College, I wish you continued successes with your studies at Tulane. A paper copy of this letter has been mailed to your permanent address as well.
Sincerely,
James M. MacLaren
Wow, that seems late for a Dean’s List announcement. Oh well, not like there is any real time sensitivity about it, as long as it gets out before the subsequent semester ends. Still, I am a little surprised it is this late. Thanks for the info, @vandygirl16.
We received a letter today congratulating our son on making the Dean’s List. It was sent to our home address.
