bump.........

What would colleges think about someone who has been involved in extracurricular activities all 4 years of high school, but started Debate in 11th grade and ended up winning lots of awards throughout 11th and 12th grade?

I also want to know the answer to this. I started Debate this year as a junior but I've already won some awards at districts, regionals and some college tournaments.

Yeah, I think it significantly helps One Natl extemp champ got into stanford and another one who qualified for natls got into WashU in StL from my school.

Starting debate in 11th is fine. My debate rival (well, he probably doesn't care much about me, but I've faced him like 2389473298 times) got into Yale and he started as a Junior.

Yes, there is Public Forum at the TOC.

No, calling it PuFo does not exactly help its reputation.

Hahaha.

CX owns all forms of debate :D

i'm just wondering if these people that got into these schools did other spectacular stuff or is being nationally ranked already good enough

aspasp, debate probably wasn't the lone factor. Also, what is CX debate...? is the LD?

cross examination

I don't think there is a form of debate called Cross examination... unless you are talking about LD

^ False. There is. It's nickname is simply CX, and it is totally awesome. However, my debate coach always despises CX-ers, because the event is much worse for natural, philosophical debaters, and much better for the kids who pay $10,000 for debate camps every summer that groom them and teach them all the lingo, tricks of the trade, etc. It's a very technical form of debate that requires being able to speak super-fast.

One of my close CX-er friends is possibly the most brilliant person I know, though. He's also an open Communist hahaha

Anyone wanna weigh in on Mock Trial? It's so fun and challenging! Just won District with my team and took Most Outstanding Advocate. w00t!!!

Anyone out here do parliamentary debate?

cx/policy debate is the way to go!
was anyone at the stanford tournament this weekend?

hookem168 is mostly right but i think there are a lot of natural philosophers in CX with things such as kritiks etc. But yes, debate camps are very expensive and where people usually learn the tricks of the trade.
