Debt and a lesser college or Caltech?

Basically, I have to decide between 90k in debt and go to Caltech or go to GT for free. I'll be majoring in either astronomy or physics.

GT=Georgia Tech???

I doubt you'd have $90 K debt at Caltech after grant aid. But if so, go to Georgie Tech. Georgia Tech is pretty good.

My EFC from collegeboard was >caltech costs. My parents can supply 80k/170k. Since it's a caltech board, i'll let you do the math :(.

That given, what are you thoughts?

Georgia Tech is an extremely good school. If you have that much money on the line, GT seems like the clear choice.

Go to Cal Tech!

You'll find science and engineering fields have less to do with the reputation of the school and more to do with how you as an individual do, so I'd go GTech without a doubt (especially since its a great school too)

DEFINITELY georgia tech. unless you absolutely hate it and caltech is your dream school.

i mean... if you're a guy and straight- there aren't really that many girls at caltech at all. i have a friend who decided between caltech and mit this year, and wanted to go to caltech cause it was free, but chose mit (even though he can't really afford it) because caltech was so racially undiverse when he visited (yes, i'm making up words).

georgia tech has a very good reputation. and it's FREE? this way you could maybe make some money in college, not worry about debt after, and go to a prestigious grad school. i dunno. caltech seems to be all work, no play, homogenous, and on top of that, debt. i'd opt for georgia tech. while it doesn't have the name of cal, it will not be looked down upon. (especially as an undergrad degree- you want to do astronomy or physics, so you will probably go to grad school, and at that point the name of your undergrad is insignificant and NOT WORTH 90 GRAND OF DEBT).

good luck either way

Let's say, if it's engineering or computer science, you should go to GATECH. But for physics/astronomy, no brainer, CALTECH.

I suggest you make sure your FA package. As far as I've known, a lot of Caltech kids got scholarship.

no debt? of course gt
