December 2009 SAT Results Thread

Wow, I find it hard to get even 2100 because of CR. Even if I max M and W I still get 500 in CR… My best was 630 in a practice test…

You can use Score Choice for all colleges, whether they claim to accept it or not.

So, how many 2400’s so far? I have seen mifune and monstor344. Anyone else?

You guys are awesome.I am a non-native speaker, and very pleased to score even a 2130.
A visit to this site makes me wonder if the mean score of 500 for each section is actually true, since you guys score so scarily!~~
Are there lots of awesome scores in your school as well?
I am just wondering. Lol.

80 MC for writing, but 8 essay = 780

frustrated…

I wouldn’t be: 80 MC with an 8 essay is a 750 on some test days.

Your school isn’t competitive at all if only 10 people score over 2000. I go to a pretty competitive public HS that has around 30% of the class score over 2000 every year

The difference between a 2340 and a 2400 is negligible, especially at top schools where applications are considered holistically. Also, I don’t think anybody’s arguing that colleges will look down upon you for retaking (although if you send an entire score report, they might), although chances are I missed a post that said so. We’re saying that to set a primary goal of a perfect SAT is pretty shortsighted.

Could you guys tell me the bottom line of Hamilton college??1600 is enough?

660cr + 730m + 750 w = 2140

I wasn’t so happy with the CR section, and probably made some stupid mistakes in math because I was confident with every single question, I honestly don’t know what happened =[ Anyways, I know I’ll do great next month!

Happy holidays everyone!

After 6 consecutive 2400s on practice tests and a 240 on the PSAT:

740 CR, 790 M, 800 W

I kinda tripped up, but I’m still content =]

Cr: 490
M: 530 (got a 550 last time)
W: 580
Essay: 11

=D SUPERSCORE on writing. 1620 yay me!

I don’t know. I live in Minnesota, which is an ACT state. The SAT is not popular whatsoever although those hoping for better opportunities at selective universities do take it. Consequently, since many of the best students take it, our average is about 1850. At my previous high school in Arizona, a state in which nearly every high school student takes it, our average was about 1430 with the top students scoring in the 1900s.

That is not bad, actually. I personally had an mc:80/e:11 on my December test despite having a 12 essay on my October and November tests. It is subjective, however, especially since odd scores seem to be the most common. An essay that fluctuates between 10-12 can significantly influence your composite score.

I STILL don’t think that’s very ethical. In fact, it kind of ****es me off. If a college tells you to send ALL SAT or ALL ACT scores, then you should follow their policy. I didn’t want to send my first SAT score, a 2100ish to Yale, but I still did it.

I honestly don’t know whether or not colleges check up to see if you used Score Choice, but is it really worth the risk if they DO find out? (Not to mention the moral component)

So, so true. Like most CC’ers, I put a ton of energy into the SAT last year, and when I got a 2400 I thought I had it made. Then I actually started putting applications together, and it hit me that test scores are just one small piece of a much broader picture. Now I wish I had spent less time stressing about scores and had started coming up with creative essay ideas and such earlier. That’s the truly difficult part.

Take the SAT seriously, but put it in perspective.

Do all schools value the CR much more heavily than Writing?

CR: 690 (for the 3rd time, very disappointed)
M: 800
W: 800 (12)

dang… you guys’ scores are depressing me

it was my first time and i got 1940…

600 CR 640 W and 700 M

:(

CR: 770
M: 600
W: 750 [11 essay]

December 2009: 2120
Superscore: 2130

I SWEAR the proctor messed up the timing on the 20 question math but what can I do now, I went up a lot from my 1940 in March.

ALSO
may I say that people need to stop freaking out about above-2250 scores
DO YOU REALLY THINK COLLEGES WILL THINK A 2400 IS MUCH BETTER THAN A 2340? those are both 99 percentile not to mention amazing. 60 points may seem like a lot but they are nothing compared to the rest of the application. HYPS get like 10, 000 applicants with above-2200 scores and as long as you have that youre in the running. If you have a 2300+ you are in the top of top pool where they REALLY don’t discriminate between the ten point differences, especially since they can afford to fill a class with 2300+ three times over, they really begin to look at personal qualities at this point, so you should be working on those instead of re-taking amazing scores. Also to the person who kept retaking the 2340, you look really greedy to colleges because of all of the above reasons. It’s not complacency if you stick with a 2350, it’s accepting your stellar achievement and moving on with your life to do better things.

^I did not submit the mid-2300s scores at all because of Score Choice; thus, I will not appear as an individual obsessed with absolute perfection.

Yes, I do. Schools do not view your SAT scores subjectively unless you demonstrate a particular talent in one area that excuses lower scores in the other (for instance, 800 CR, 800 W, 650 M if the individual shows remarkable writing talent). The higher the SAT, the better, since your acceptance is largely based on overcoming a point threshold although holism takes precedence in select cases. Nearly half receive admittance at HYPS with a 2400 whereas only 20-some% do with a 2300. I do not have the link to the proper source to substantiate this, but it is true.

Let me get this right. You didn’t submit the mid-2300 scores even to colleges such as Yale and Stanford that explicitly ask that you submit ALL your scores regardless of score choice?

If you did what I think you did, you are right. You will not appear as an individual obsessed with absolute perfection. But forget about appearances; you ARE a liar and cheater.

Does anyone know when the more detailed score report will be available tomorrow? Is it like it was for Dec. 22, 5 am EST? Or later?
