December 2010 - Chemistry Subject Test

So wait, for the Na3PO4 one, was it TTCE or just TT?

^Diboy: I read it at the meniscus; I think I got 37.68 (well, 37.something8).

I’m not sure, but I know I got it right. I put true for one of the statements, dont know about the other.

I think it was 37.38, as opposed to 37.62… 37.28 mL was dispensed since 0 ml is at the top, not bottom.

the meniscus was of a buret, which is the tool used in titration. if you didn’t notice, the buret is measured in reverse of a graduated cylinder; the top is 0, the bottom would be, say, 100. 37 was ABOVE 38 and water is being let out from a measurement of 0 (top). You were supposed to measure downwards, so if i remember correctly, it was around 37.3,

Yeah, thats what I got. I got 30something.38.
Ok, ive been asking this.
Was PbBr3 unstable because Br3+ doesnt exist

Yes. Lead only has stable oxidation states of +2,+4, and -4.

IMO it was very, very easy compared to the test I took in June. (this was my second time taking chemistry)
however, I forgot how quickly the hour goes by and had to omit like 7 because I was jumping around trying to do the fast ones first before I ran out of time. worst case scenario for me, if i miss all the ones i wasn’t sure about, is a 62 raw, unless i missed more than i was unsure about, and i just want a 700 so i think i did fine.

redzerb is right. the meniscus looks like 37.38 because of the surface tension of water, it really isn’t. the correct measurement would be 37.3

hey guys, i omitted 3 and i am sure i did two wrong. how many more do i have to miss to fall off the 750 score?

I think you’re fine ^. Isn’t the curve for chemistry usually like -7 or so for an 800?

what!!! are you serious? on the sat 1 (math) i did 4 mistakes overall and got a 710? why all the difference?

^oh really??? I sincerely hope so. Then ill get at least 700 for sure.

@EmpathSilvio: Math I does NOT have a curve. 1 wrong = 790 or lower

to empath: different subject tests have different curves.

Chemistry curves are VERY generous, even more so than math 2 (which is like -5 usually I think)

to yalefan:

Yeah in order to get a 700 u have to miss like 15 or something like that lol

sorry for asking this again, but for the 2.75 and .117 answers, what were the questions?

Hm, anyone remember the questions about the experiment where a guy drove off water by heating a sample?
One of them talked about what you should do for better accuracy if the amount of water driven off is less than you expected. What’d you guys put for that one D:?

i thought chemisty curve is NOT generous! i omitted 4 and i am sure i did more than four wrong…:(. how many more do i have to get wrong to fall off the 700 score?

what did you guys put for the measuring the mass of water evaporated from the anhydrous salt experiment. It would be to keep reheating and reweighing until the mass stayed constant right?

^yes. That is right.

what about that TTCE question about water being a good conductor of electrictiy
it seems like regular water (w/ some degree of dissolved ions) conducts well, but if they implied “pure water”…then it would not conduct
does anyone remember the question specifically?
