December 2010 - Chemistry Subject Test

for the 2.75 question, how do you solve that?

You had to use the Molarity equation 3 times. Once for each compound to find the number of moles. Then after adding them up, you had to use the Molarity equation again using the combined number of moles and the volume of the solution, which was 200 mL. And I believe the combined number of moles was .55, so .55/.2 = 2.75

i forgot what the exact values are, but if it was the molarity questions w/ the KOH solutions, i think u just multiply (m1v1+m2v2)/(v1+v2)

Actually, I was running out of time so I just guessed 2.75

But out of all the answers, that’s the only one that made sense there.

Does anyone remember their answer for the “Which is true of CO2 gas?”
I. It is more dense than air.
II. It supports combustion
III. It is soluble in water.

Well, something like that. Is it just I?

I remember wantign to put just I, but i think that wasnt a choice given
so i put I and III

I believe it’s one and three. Gas can be dissolved in water, like in pop.

I also put I and III for that question

Are you positive that III was “It is soluble in water”?
Because I am not sure, but I recall putting down just I. However, if III had been a choice, I would have certainly put down I and III.

Yeah, I’m positive III was water solubility.
I just thought CO2 = nonpolar and water = polar, so I put I only T^T. That and I thought dissolved CO2 would make carbonic acid, which kind of breaks apart instantly, so yeah…

Ah I see, guess I got it wrong then. :frowning:
Any others you guys remember?

How many do you have to get wrong/omit to go down to 700?

I went in with literally about 20 minutes of prep (the car ride there…) lol

According to the blue book, a 700 correlates to a raw score of 61 or 62, so you could miss 19 :P.

what would be my score if I get like 8 or 9 questions wrong?

if i skipped 4 questions and got more than 4 wrong, what would be my score?

anyone know the percentile for a 700. And anyone rember any other questions they were unsure of?

I think there was one with a graph and heat. i got 720kJ

I also got 720 KJ.

For the Kj one, I multiplied kj per minute by the number of minutes the line was horizontal on the top.
The SI one was micro

Hey I have a question:
What happens if you forget to copy down that certification statement: I hereby…
Because my proctor told me that I did wrong and I erased it, but she didnt give me a chance to write it again…

I think your score would be delayed …
