I took the December SAT earlier today and I am terrified that the machine will not be able to read any of my answers.

Over the past month I have taken multiple practice tests and I have consistently used the following strategy: when I skip a question (in order to come back to it later) I write the number of the question to the left of the corresponding section on the answer sheet.

For example, if I can't do Math problem question 18, section 3 then I put 18 in a circle next to the section 3 multiple choice bubbles on the answer sheet.

At the end of the test I'm usually left with a few written numbers on the answer sheet of questions that I can't answer (even after coming back to them). Today I handed in my answer sheet with a total of 10 numbers written on it.

The invigilator asked me why I had written on the answer sheet when you are not supposed to mark outside of the bubbles at all. He told me that it was too late to rub out the 10 numbers and that the machine will probably not be able to read any of my answers.

I am home-schooled so was not aware that you are not allowed to write/mark on the answer sheet. Is this a College Board policy? If so, what would you advise me to do?

Please help!
