@jmek15 You know that Amherst is often named one of the best US college towns in America. LOL You are fired as a travel writer. In addition to the five college consortium, UMass also ranks as having the best food and D1 athletics. UMass used to have a party rep in the 80s. But mentioning the Honors College, with a CS and Physics double major, you may opt out as an upper classman.
Oh and the number for the day is 32k. That is the extra money to attend Stevens. Let me just say also that while I’m sure it is great, salary numbers could also be reflecting location. Higher salaries in NYC (and higher cost of living). You can’t go wrong with either and UMass is considered a top school for CS. Do you want to pay 32k for the other is the question.
@ucbalumnus I mean the net price after FA/scholarships is 35k for Umass and 43k for Stevens. Both prices will require at least some amount of loans, although we are confident that they won’t be an issue past my graduation.
I’m from Illinois, and I applied to University of Illinois at Urbana for Computer Science and unfortunately did not get in.
@gearmom, I said that Amherst was nice, small and remote as compared to Stevens which is in Hoboken and across the river from Manhattan. Nothing but the truth there. I’ve been to both schools and, being in state, know many happy undergrads at UMass. But I also know a few who have transferred because of the party atmosphere. Make no mistake, they party. No fireable offenses committed.
@Anttl462: CHC + CS at UMass Amherst is an elite program - heavily recruited and sought after by tech employers. I also believe that there’s no better time for living in a college town than when you’re in college - living in a city, especially NYC, is much more fun when you make money. Since CHC at Umass is cheaper than Stevens, that’s what I’d pick.
