Blog from Assistant Dean of Admissions:

In response to a comment on one of my blog entries, I thought it would be best to address an excellent question. Someone asked, "When is Carnegie Mellon going to mail Admission Decision Letters?" We're busy right now in admission committee meetings reviewing applications, but we anticipate that decision letters will begin mailing on Friday, March 20, 2009. We'll continue to mail all of the letters in bunches for a week or so after that point.

I misspelled letters. Very sorry, If a mod can change it. I would appreciate it. haha... sorry

Just to let you guys know, last year they sent the letters out in two waves. Acceptances were received three days before rejections. It sucked to get the rejection after everyone got the acceptances earlier. They could do the same this year, so be ready… good luck to all!!!

Does this mean they’ll be posting the first decisions online in the morning or at night on March 23? Not that it should matter, but I have a strong feeling I’ll be checking every hour once there’s a chance they’ve been posted.

I kind of hate to post this, but when I last spoke to the Admissions Office, the lady I spoke with did say they keep sending letters out up to April 15th…so they don’t all go out on March 20th, guys, okay…I know, I know, I hate waiting too.

Not necessarily. While decisions will be coming out 3 days after they are mailed, they definitely want people to learn thier decision from the letter, not from the internet… maybe it is three or four days after the letter is sent.

Since they are sent in waves, it may be three days after the particular letter is sent, whenever that is.

I just am hoping that they aren’t sending them in waves… cmu is now my first choice (and has been for 3+ months since I was rejected from Olin) and I don’t want to wait out for a rejection letter.

Last year I was in first wave of acceptances. I believe the letters began to mail on a Monday, and my decision was posted online Thursday morning. I think they post after midnight, or some time in the early morning. If they are mailing starting tomorrow, you won’t see a posting until Tuesday or Wednesday next week. They are pretty serious about the 3-day wait for the online posting.

Relax… a few more days…

My fat envelope took about 5 days to get to my house. A lot of mail took a while to get to me. I think outgoing mail gets stuck in the mail room or the post office for a day or two.
