I'm middle class with an EFC of 12k and got 32k in grants.

I'm in! :)

"It is the us in the middle-class to upper-middle-class majority that get screwed most of the time."

That is absolutely true. My parents can afford about $20k per year, but I only got $10k in merit aid and no grants. So unless I want to take out $80 grand in loans, I'm screwed.

I got in!
But since my EFC is $5000 and all I got was a $2500 loan I dont think ill be going. Oh well, U of O here I come!

I got in but with nothing but some small loan offer. This just clinches the fact that I'm not going to BU.

all i was given was a Federal Direct Subsidized Loan for 1750 both semesters!
lol how lame!

I got in too, with the Trustee Scholarship!!! :) But the 3.5 minimum GPA for renewal does scare me a bit, since everyone is always talking about how tough BU's grading system is...

Congratulations, everyone!

OH MY GAWD.........I can't believe this! I got a FULLL RIDE!!! No loans, all grants!!!!! omg omg omg. My stats aren't that great either, 3.7 gpa, 2200 sats, laughable ecs..

Does how much grant money you get depend on you stats? Or you EFC? I've seen people with lower EFCs or about the same as me and I got like twice as much grant money.

^ i know - i got a total of 47000$ in grant which is a WOW.
I have a 2160 SAT some good EC's and wrote very good essays.

I think a university has to want you bad to give you a lot of grant money. Well i am going to go to Carleton, but this offer was beautiful!

I think grants depend mostly on your EFC. Academic performance is key in determining whether you'll RECEIVE a grant, but the actual amount is determined by how much you need. At least i think so.

Wait if grants are mainly based on EFC, how is it possible that I have an EFC of 13k and only get 22k in grants, whereas Nickel Xenon with an EFC of 12k (just $1000 less than my EFC) get 32k in grants? That's like a 10k difference in grants! Should I appeal for financial aid?

Well my parents made 76k in 2007 but will make around 54k in 2008. I did write that in my CSS profile. Maybe they took that into consideration?

Edit: I got 29600 for the Boston University Grant and 2000 for the Supplement University Grant. Then 3000 for the Federal Perkins Loan. A Federal Direct Unsub. Loan of 2080, Federal Direct Subsidized Loan of 1420, and Federal Work-Study of 2000. So it totals to 40100.

I got accepted to BU, NYU, Lehigh, and Northeastern so far, and a lot of you got accepted to NYU too but choose BU over it? Is this due to the cost or just the need of a real campus. I personally like NYU more due to the whole city feel. Congratulations to everyone too.

Rejected. :(

When it comes to campus, aren't NYU and BU sort of the same? Both pretty much dominate their respective cities.

I'm leaning towards BU because of the cost most definitely. I haven't gottem my aid from NYU but I hear it's too expensive and their adi sucks.

Accepted :)
Decent financial aid package ....but none for being NMF (what is up with BU and NMF?)
Not sure if attending, but probably not.

Well, most BU buildings are located along Commonwealth Ave., unlike NYU where buildings are scattered around NYC.

Heh, nothing dominates NYC, least of all NYU. If it was not for the purple banners on the street you would not know you are "on campus"
