It is when you go into your sid account

It says there that decisions will be online saturday but it doesn't say a time. I imagine sometime early in the morning like the SAT'sbut that is just a guess.

according to some people(on facebook) letters were mailed on thursday and you can check online friday... not sure if that's true but just what I read.

This link (but not the other) shows a decision now--good news for D!

Good for our boy also...GO TERPS

Got scholars also...and he didn't even apply for that program

Bad news for me.

I don't know you, but I am a Mom, it is UMD's loss and that is how you should see it...Good luck for your other schools :)

S received his acceptance envelope from UMD today. Also informed he was accepted into the Honors program so they have mailed out the envelopes.

llll, I agree with bulletandpima. It's disappointing but I'm sure you'll move on to have a great college experience at another school. If it's any consolation, this is UMD's most competitive year ever. http://wbal.com/stories/templates/news.aspx?articleid=1743&zoneid=2

it says I got accepted to Spring 2009, did other that didnt get into fall get this option? Or is it only for some people? I might consider doing it, just wondering what happened to others.

Wow that's interesting. I now wonder what will happen to people who applied RD...will they also get Spring?

My son's reads as follows:

You have been admitted to the University of Maryland for the Fall 2008 semester!

We are pleased to welcome you to one of the nation's finest research universities.

In addition, you have been invited to University Honors Program
Please click here for more information about this program
and to Honors Humanities
Please click here for more information about this program

mine read:

While we cannot offer you admission for the fall semester, we are impressed with all you have accomplished and we are pleased to offer you admission for the Spring 2009 semester which begins in January. You can look forward to receiving an official decision letter which will contain detailed information about your admission and the variety of options available to you prior to your spring enrollment at the University of Maryland. We invite you to explore the University of Maryland Freshmen Connection program which is available to you during the fall semester.

Last year, UMD offered Spring spots to a limited number of people. THey know there will be some attrition over the fall, and they hope that you'll do their fall program. We have a family friend who got the same kind of offer at Clemson -- went to her second choice "just for a semester 'til I go to Clemson" and never looked back at Clemson again.

Our s's said the same thing as Max's, but place in Scholars.

Doing research on UMD, I think I now understand the differences.

Gemstone does research projects and I assume leans to the scientific arena. It is a 4 yr deal

Scholars is a 2 yr deal and leans to 12 degrees

Honors humanities lean to the arts field.

All who graduate from these programs receive citations.

Might be wrong about what I wrote, but at least it is starting to become clearer.

I was also told by someone that in the Scholars program they like to place incoming freshman with someone of the same program in their dorm room, to create a bonding instead of two opposites (i.e. Physics major and a fashion major)

Gemstones is a multidisciplinary program -- teams of kids form and work together for four years on a project. Sometimes it's an original product, sometimes the students hook up with a company as a consulting team and work on a problem. Students have come out of it with patents, etc. We know someone who's in it and loves it. Wasn't DS1's cup o' tea. There were a couple of short essay Qs at the end of the app that were designed to tease out one's interest/fit in the various programs without saying so explicitly.

Nothing yet here:

"We are unable to offer you a decision on your application at this time. You will be contacted as soon as the decision process is complete.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland."

Hopefully my decision will be up soon.

I didn't submit my application untill January 19th, so would I still be receiving a decision this weekend? I wasn't expecting to get one back until March.

Or is this just for those who applied prior to December 1st?
