^ They tell you online first. Then they send out a snail mail package (according to other posters on the forum).

They do announce LEP admissions and Honors/Scholars acceptances along with general admission decisions. For money, I have no clue. I do hope they give out fin. aid/merit aid decisions early… it’s very important for many students, esp. in this economic climate.

They send LEP and other program (Scholars/Honors) at the same time. If I recall correctly, financial aid information comes a bit later, but still plenty of time to weigh your options before the May 1 deadline.

Last year DS received an admission letter/packet with the admission status and Honors distinction about the end of January. Since he did not indicate on his application wanting to work in groups, he was not placed in a Gemstone group.

The scholarship information comes after. Those that were admitted to Honors (800 or so last year) are then evaluated for selection as semifinalists to be invited to interview for the Banneker/Key Scholarships. Invitations went out to about 300 of the 800 to interview for full and partial B/K Scholarships. DS received his invitation dated February 17, 2009 and I believe that was the last batch of three that went out. The B/K award letter arrived the end of March and was dated March 25th if that helps anyone. I cannot comment on any other forms of merit aid though.

psh… I already know I didn’t get in and if I did it will be rescended because I got a D in AP stat this semester. LOL. <3.02 GPA, 1530 SAT, Black Male, Instate (Montgomery county), not first gen, Major Accounting> I still cannot wait until I get my letter though

I don’t think UMD will rescind your (potential) admission offer b/c of a D in AP Stat. If you can get a C or a B next semester, they won’t care at all. At least that is what I think happens…

I just got a letter from CP but it ended up being an invitation to a financial aid workshop which is on feb 2, idk if that means anything but that letter had my heart beating pretty fast

^^^^^^ Haha me too. I’m so accustomed to the idea that “big envelope = acceptance” & “small envelope = rejection” and I got really freaked out to see the little envelope.
I hope it means something good though!

When DS was admitted three years ago, he did not know of his acceptance to an LEP until the snail mail “big envelope” arrived a couple of days later than the online notification of general admission.

DD received a very nice “hand writting” card from the assistant to the dean of college of Chemical and Life Sciences earlier in this week. On the card, the assistant of the dean said that she has recently reviewed DD’s very impressive application. The assistant of the dean has also mentioned that DD will be a good fit with Hinman CEOs program. This might be a hint that DD has been selected to the new honor program at UMCP. DD has not received an official mail yet as of today. We can’t wait to receive a “big” envelope from UMCP.

I know for the last 2 yrs the decision if you are accepted to an LEP comes with your on line acceptance. They actually state the program and have a link for it…I.E. congrats upon your acceptance to UMDCP Gemstone. These are not programs that change if people do not attend UMDCP (in other words no waitlisting for the program). They will at that time send you a snail mail form for you to rank order the program you want to be in within the LEP.
