@rainbowrose: I totally understand what you’re saying. I live in CT and St.Louis is pretty far away. But I really like WUSTL so it’s a possibility. We’ll just have to wait and see:)

ACCEPTED!!! freaking out.

brief breakdown: 34 ACT. 3.95 GPA. unreal recs. creative essay. SOOOOO EXCITED. i want to be there already

good luck/congratulations to everyone!

Take the plane ride. It’s what, a 3 hour flight from NYC? When you come right down to it, this isn’t THAT much longer a trip than, say to Dartmouth. If you don’t visit, how will you ever know which school you prefer.

@zephyr, I’m definitely visiting. It’s more that I don’t like planes/being that far away than I’m worried about the length of the trip. If something were to happen, my parents couldn’t just drive there right away. It’s not exactly a deterrent (I didn’t even apply to any safeties near here because I got into Tulane which also requires a plane ride but I know more people there), but who wouldn’t prefer to be closer?

@GoldOwl: Thanks. (Now I still have no idea…I wonder if the pathway will be crashing at like 5:30…)

@rainbowrose: My friend got rejected from Wash U ED and got into Cornell. I think you’ll be fine. :)

@rainbowrose and Gold Owl,

If you live in the NY area it’s really not a long plane ride–about 2 hours from La Guardia. And WashU is only 15 minutes from the St. Louis airport. My child says it’s much easier than anticipated. And it gives you a chance to experience another part of the country. So if you have a chance to visit, do so. We did, and after that WashU moved to the top of list ahead of the acceptances that were closer to home.

Does Washu even reject applicants? so many waitlists (including myself)

they reject, but because so few ever really make it off the waitlist, many say that waitlist is basically a rejection from them.

Wow, it looks like a really selective year! There were more applicants this year, and they wanted to accept a smaller class this year because last year had a larger than expected class. I’m really impressed by the qualifications of those who were accepted, and those who weren’t. Congrats to those who got in, and for those who didn’t, good luck at the other schools you applied to.

For those accepted from the NY area, don’t be too afraid of the distance. I’m the parent of a current WashU freshman, and am about to drive to Newark airport to pick up my S as he returns home for spring break. There are frequent daily (short) flights to the NYC airports, and it is very easy to get to the St. Louis airport from campus. Door-to-door travel time is probably about the same as if he were in school in Boston or upstate New York.

common I’m international student and it takes 13hours to come U.S from my country haha

@rainbow rose, I’m not a big fan of planes either (wait, that’s a lie, I actually hate flying more than almost anything else), but I’ll be doing it because I love the school that much. And it’s definitely not a bad plane ride, it’s only about 2-2.5 hours, and you need to take two metrolink trains to get to the campus. It’s really easy!

WL… its all good. same as reject. :(

Keep your head up guys. Keep in mind that getting rejected from WUSTL but accepted to Ivies is quite common. At this level, it’s very possible that you might get rejected from a “lesser” school but accepted into an elite one.

As for me, I was waitlisted, and while I absolutely love WUSTL - how close to home it is, how awesome its dorms are, and how it represents my city well and everything - I realize that there’s still plenty of options. I’m still waiting on 12 of my decisions, and I have a likely letter to one of them, so I’ll end up somewhere I love.

I feel like the lack of a supplemental essay may have hurt me here, though, because my likely letter was for a school of equivalent difficulty, only I wrote two extra essays for that school. haha

Congrats to those who were accepted!

I think i’m booking my trip for next weekend and take the tour on Monday. Dad has lots of air miles. So excited!!!

Accepted. SAT 2300/ACT 36

Ceresma, didn’t you get the offer for the MultiCultural Weekend thing?

no im not “Mulitcultrial” lol

@Kajon

Thanks for clarifying. My S was waitlisted and didn’t really consider Wash U to be a reach. We were surprised, actually. Also, I agree with you. There are so many other great schools to choose from. Wouldn’t stay on the wait list past getting the other acceptances that roll in. No school is that elite!

Rejected…turns out my guidance counselor didn’t send in my midyear report until yesterday. Whoo…

aznmeeagi that is not fair, did he send to your other schools?
