Declining Offers of Admissions

Good decision mrchipmunk!! I hope the other students follow suit. It is the right thing to do. Success, as they say, is in the details.

Chill out, I did it already. I don't trust CB, so I had tried finding them on the schools' own websites, which was not as easy as it may sound. Loyola's was especially difficult to find. That is why I turned to CC to try to help me out. At least I did it, unlike some other people (one of whom you know) who didn't even bother to do it at all.

Mrchipmunk-
As you see, your congratulations for doing the right thing were duly noted. I will happily pass the chill pill to you. I have no idea who the reference is to "one of whom I know" but if you give me a hint, I'll ride their tail too!!

PS-- it really was pretty easy info to find...

We did send an e-mail to admissions declining, and got this response -

"Greetings from the _____ College Undergraduate Admission Office!

Please note that we are unable to respond to your message due to the high volume of e-mail and spam mail that we receive daily.

You are encouraged to call our office at 1-800-______ between the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm EST Monday through Friday.

Thank you for your interest in ______ College."

"BTW, mrchipmunk, I do know of someone who recently decided to decline Northwestern, and instead selected the Honors program at Maryland. I don't know if she emailed Northwestern to let them know of her decision,"

that's who i was referring to

LOL mamabear!

DS did find, with one big U, there was a "generic" email address for the Admissions office, where general interest inquiries went (and from which those kind of responses wer generated) and there was another email address, that he got either in an email to him or some other mailing, that had more specific email contact info. But, if they are gonna make it hard to reach them by email, faxing is probably the next best and easiest thing.

mrchipmunk-
I said I did not know whether or not she replied to Northwestern. To be honest, I assume she did.

Now, if the rest of the students will do as you did, the waitlists might move a little faster. You set a good example, mrchipmunk, by contacting the schools. Lets hope collegeappwoes, steph, and the others who seem to be blowing off this responsibility will do the right thing too.

Some of the mid-sized and smaller colleges, like what kitty indicated in post #23, give you the email contact for the individual regional reps. For Tufts, look here: Meet the Admission Officers - Office of Undergraduate Admissions - Tufts University

thanks for the inspiration all...I just emailed all the colleges to whom i was delining their offer of admissions....best of luck to all those who are waitlisted!!!

My son found that, even with the big state U's and their generic Admissions Office email addresses, within a few days his decline was acknowledged. If anyone out there is feeling like sending it to the generic email address is a waste of time - just do it anyway.

can anyone find the carnegie mellon and suny binghamton contact info?

check the collegeboard website-- go to the college listing and select "admissions"

Please don't take this wrong, but as geezermom said in post #19, this was pretty easy stuff to find. Maybe parents really are smarter? Either that or our kids are still getting us to do stuff for them ! :)

(and I didn't use the CB website, I went straight to the individual college's sites)

Yes, sorry, I found them right after I posted actually. Sent already.
Thanks for the help anyways.

OP, the way you say "retaliate" makes it sound like you're asking if the adcoms will come jump you, ahah.

If you want to know what address to send the email to, look at the old emails you have recieved from the schools and reply to that address...even if it is a generic one. that is, if you have save these emails like me:)

If you get into several, do you have to tell the other schools that you will not be going there?

You should have notified all of your colleges of your decision by May 1st. You should still give them the courtesy of confirming that you're not attending so they know for sure and they can free up your spot for someone that is hopeful on the wait list. They also want to know where you'll be attending. I let all of mine know and got some nice letters back from them. You never know- you may be going to one of them for grad school.
