Deerfield Academy [Deerfield, MA]

The dress code at Deerfield seems so formal! I’d have to spend a lot of money buying new clothes, because I’m the jeans-and-shorts-and-tshirt kind of person. :P

For guys, it’s certainly expensive at first as you buy a full wardrobe of “class dress”. Girls have a little more flexibility and can usually just by without quite the same expense. For girls, it just takes some updating to get whatever you’re wearing up to spec.

Lacrosse 2010 at Deerfield

Salisbury 9 Deerfield 6

Does anyone have a link to to the game?

are you also sarum09 on laxpower

No that’s not me, I am a few years before 09:) Sarum is a common nickname for Salisbury amongst the school’s community.

great win btw

if you knock of avon you’ll be NE west I champs, as im sure you already know haha

Sarum, congratulations on the win. I wasn’t at the game (fortunately). Try to keep Avon discussions out of the DA thread though. Thanks.

Track NEs are being hosted on our track this saturday, as the athletic seasons wind down…

My father - in - law went to DA. It is a terrific school located on some legendary hallowed ground.
Anyone interested in DA should read “The Headmaster”, [Amazon.com: The Headmaster: Frank L. Boyden of Deerfield (9780374514969): John McPhee: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Headmaster-Frank-L-Boyden-Deerfield/dp/0374514968/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273799370&sr=8-1) about Frank L. Boyden, one of the greatest headmasters of all time.

Sometimes I wonder why my son is at SPS. (kidding Winterset) :)

Did anyone get the the Spanish and French Placement Test yet??

lindha, it’s online, go to danet.deerfield.edu

My d got a beautiful hand written letter from her “Green-Key” today. I love the traditions of DA. That sense of community is shown in everything they do :-).

I was looking for some feedback on my placements. I requested regular chemistry and regular algebra II, but I was told that “based on my records” and my placement test or something I would be put into accelerated chem and algebra II honors.
How difficult are these classes and is it a good idea to take them? I am not going to be taking a history next year, apparently mine this year fills the requirement and I’m taking two languages so it would be hard. I asked for the regular science and math because I thought that the work load would be too much with the two languages and two more honors classes. I have been taking two languages for two years now, but I’m just afraid that it will be crazy and a lot harder than the work load I’m used to (about 4-ish hours a night). Could anyone tell me what the work load will be like and what others who take two languages opt to do? Thanks.

I am not familiar with Deerfield’s policies but you could always try out the two honors courses for the first quarter (does deerfield have quarters?) and then evaulate if you would like to continue and can handle the work. If they recommended that you take them then I would take their suggestion and try it out for the first grading period.

alelu: I am in A2A and Chem IA here at deerfield this year, and let me say that I think you should definitely go for it. Chem IA is a fantastic class if you are interested in science, especially if you get Mr. Teutsch, he’s a great teacher who knows a ton about chemistry. The work load is manageable for both, although if you aren’t as strong in math you might want to consider requestion A2 as A2A is a much harder class that moves a lot faster, but you can also always decide to drop down after about a week if you think it seems to hard! There is little to no chance that you will have more than 4 hours of homework a night, if you are working hard and efficiently. I’m taking French, Chem IA, A2A, West in the modern world, and English II and I would say I have an average of 1.5 hours of homework a night of distraction free hard work. I would say though that if your two languages are Greek and Latin, Latin can be a pretty heavy work load class especially depending on your teacher.

My languages are French and Latin. I sat in on both when I revisited and I absolutely loved the classes. Ms. Lyons I think her name was was so crazy and fun and I want to be in her class so bad! I sat in on a Latin 4 so that’ll be different from what I take but it looked really similar to how my class right now is set up so I don’t think I’ll have any problems there.

I want to take Latin and Greek though, a lot. I think I’ll try to finish French or Latin and then pick up Greek. Yay Classics!

Thunderstorms, hail, and winds up to 60 mph just after 11 PM last night made a mess of the campus right before graduation weekend. Students are helping clean up now. Power is still out except in a few places. Here’s an update from DANET:

Currently, there is generator power in MSB (Main School Building), Dining Hall, and IT server room. Phones and voicemail are up, though some phones in KCH are not working. Virtually all servers are up, but wireless coverage on campus is spotty. Wired networking is online only in the MSB.
There have been rumors that power could be restored as early as this afternoon.

The new [The Scroll|Deerfield Academy’s Newspaper](http://scroll.deerfield.edu/) is online. If you click on the “read as a newspaper” on the lower right and go to page 4, you will find the graduating class’ college matriculation. I don’t have time now to crunch the numbers.

^that storm was legit crazy.

I live near deerfield, about an hour north, and it was so scary!!
