I was accepted as a new 12th grader at Choate, Hotchkiss, and Deerfield (I'm still waiting on Andover). I would like to know any info on these three schools and if anyone has any suggestions for me as to which to choose etc.

It depends - share stuff about your ECs, favorite subjects, etc.

you were accepted into all three?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
you lucky dog!;)

Did you apply for FA?

yeah, I got almost full scholarship at D, and 40% ish at H, idk about C yet...

ECs-mainly violin solo competitions etc (I've won a few national/intl awards) -I'll probably go off campus for lessons etc so this isn't a very big factor, the rest: I have some officer positions in clubs, and I'd probably want to do math team/club, amnesty international, and german club at whichever school I go to for sure.

I'm more concerned about applying to colleges since I'll be a senior--which school of those do you think will be the most welcoming toward a new, one-yr senior?

Also, I've never visited any of these schools since I applied late out of a family emergency in mid February ( I have to go to a b/s next yr)...so any input on dorms/campus/food/size of school and classes/people there would be nice!

I think that Deerfield might be.
They take older people in very well (no offense, but just because most people come in around 9th grade :D)
And if you look at the viewbook, unlike some other schools, they had an input from a PG student...
I don't know,
omg i would kill to be in your position.
:D

lalalove - are you home from school already?? Can you go online at aol?? :)

yeahh
School ended at like 4
I was home for a while.
And I was online too...
Go online!
:)

Do you mean PG or 12th grade?

A friend of my son did a PG at Deerfield and loved the place.

If you are going to take off-campus music lessons, you need to be concerned about the availability of such lessons -- the three schools you list are quite different in their locations which (IMO) would impact music lesson availability. My impression is that Choate might be easiest to set up something like that -- but you need to check it out.

Have you visited all three schools? They are all good schools and all quite different in location and feel.

al612 how good were your stats? are you an athlete?

I was talking about a PG, but then
I was referring to older applicants in general.

I sent you a PM

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I'll be a new 12th grader next year (I'm currently in 11th)

My stats: SAT 1: 2270, SAT 2 scores in math 2 and Chinese: 790, 800; I have a 4.0 UW GPA at a pretty competitive CA public school, it's ranked top 100 in USNews

No, I'm not an athlete, but I think my violin playing helped a lot in getting me in...

Also...I got in Andover today as well...so any input on that would be greatly appreciated too!

Regarding the off-campus violin things: Deerfield promised me I could go every wkend or so to NEC if I arrange my own ride, and Choate promised that I can go to Yale. I also heard that Andover students go to NEC, so I think all four schools should be relatively ok w/it.

However, Hotchkiss's FA was significantly less than Andover and Deerfield's, so I want to know more about the schools to see if I can eliminate Hotchkiss from my revisit list...if I like others much better etc

bump...anyone else with opinions about Andover or any of these schools?

What are you looking for from boarding school? I'm a recent D grad, but we seem to be overrepresented in this forum right now.

Well I'd like the academics to be challenging, and hopefully it'll be a good experience for me socially and intellectually...Also, preferably I can still get into a good college from there...

How did you like your experience at D, what were some positives and negatives that stood out?

I admire you so, al612! :) Congratulations!!! ^^
I am a junior, too. But I apply to schools repeating grade 11. I know it's much harder to be accepted as a new senior, but you did it! I am waitlisted for Hotchkiss... So sad! :( I just can do that bad! <crying></crying>

Congrats!

Thanks vnese!! You might still have a chance at Hotchkiss! Did you apply for FA?
