Deerfield Chances

SO i was doing a little research and saw all of these "chances" post so i decided to make my own.

I had never heard of Deerfield before this year, and a couple of months ago i was recruited by a coach. I mean the coach made the school sound really great so i just was like "why not" and decided to apply. When i looked at all these forums i was shocked at how crazy people got over this school and others like it...its just high school. But, I found myself obsessively stalking all of them. Finally i cracked and decided to make my own.

I will be a rising soph next year. I am also a Caucasian female.

SSAT: i only took it once and i got in the 82%. I emailed my interviewer my scores and she told me that she didn't think i should take the SSAT again because i had "a solid set of scores".

Interview: My interview went perfect! We were both originally from the same region of Canada so we instantly bonded. She was so nice and it never felt like an interview. By the end we were both laughing and having a good time. She told both my mother and i that she thought i was an 100% fit for the school and that i was the kind of person they were looking for.

Grades: I had a 3.79 gpa last term and a 3.97 gpa this term. last year i had 93% average for the entire year. I got mostly A's but i did have a couple B's.

EC: Girl Talk Leader- Its kinda like a big sister role for high schoolers to mentor middle schoolers. We talk about self confidence and stuff like that every week. I have been a part of it for two years. I run XC and Track. I have won many different awards for it and i have been in many newspapers. I also am an active participant in French Club. i also volunteer every summer at my local children's hospital once a week for 5 hours a day. (its my favorite part of the summer!!) I also did writing and running camps this past summer.

I have traveled around the country and with those experiences i wrote a killer essay! (writing is one of my favorite pastimes) My teachers are great this term so i'm positive i have great recs.

I also babysit weekly in my neighborhood.

Thanks so much for reading... Please respond!!

The interviewers say that to everyone to get them to apply, hello $60 an app!!! and you seem like a good applicant especially since you are a recruited athlete but it all depends if they need a female next year to run cross country and track for them. Well see though on march 10th. And GOOD LUCK.

bump pls respond to post

I think we had the same interviewer–how many are super nice Canadians? :D

Good luck! I’ve always wished I could be fast… I’m a 14 minute miler… :)

If the coach tried to recruit you, you definitely have a good chance!

I think the fact that ur Canadian and a great runner definitely means you have a chance.

Deerfield has just about as many Canadians as SKoreans & kids from neighboring Vermont. Being Canadian is definitely NOT a hook.

see page 117 for the number of kids from each country

sorry guys just saw this i am actually not canadian, but i am a from an underrepresented state. (i’m a second generation american btw my grandparents were immigrants one from europe another from canada and my heritage is a big source of pride for my family.)

Deerfield is the most selective boarding school and I guess you sound qualified. More than anything else, you are a recruited candidate and the fact that your interviewer said you wouldn’t have to retake the SSAT made me think your chance is higher than average. Good luck.
