My niece was just deferred for admission to the University of Chicago. Its her first choice. 34 ACT, 3.9 UWGPA, white with no hooks. Are there any stats that show what percentage of deferred students are admitted to regular admission? Other choices are Claremont, USC, UNC-CH(legacy),Univ. of Washington and Santa Clara. Stay hopeful or focus on other choices?
No they didn’t break it down that far, but now she is in the RD pool (assuming she doesn’t switch to ED2) and admissions office quoted an approximately 2% rate for RD admissions.
If UofC is still her first choice, she should switch it to EDII to increase her chances.
I believe the number that was frequently cited by insiders was .5-1% rate of RD acceptance after deferral. In any case, it’s incredibly low––if UChicago is your niece’s first choice and she has some financial security, I’d urge her to apply EDII, as her chances will be boosted considerably.
