Deferral Question

My D has been accepted to the perfect college for her. At the same time, she has the possibility of being accepted into a one-year program that would allow her to engage full time in an extracurricular activity that has taken up much of her after school time for many years.
Should she request a deferral now, before her college's decision deadline, or go ahead and send the deposit, knowing that if she does get accepted to the other program, she will want to request a deferral?
I know that the college has granted deferrals to students in the past, I just don't know if it's possible to request one after the deadline for deposits.

Wouldn't you want to get the question answered directly by the college rather than on a forum? Call the admissions office, and speak frankly with the director of admissions. They could possibly offer an extension. If she asks for a deferral now, it means that she has decided not to attend this year. And obviously she has not yet been accepted to the other program.

This is definitely a case where you need to ask the school what the proper procedure is.
