Deferred ED...

One of my really good friends was deferred from Elon ED, and asked me what I thought she should do. I am also curious, because I am anticipating a deferral of my own from Georgetown in about 12 days...

So, if deferred, what is the best plan of action to increase your chances for regular decision? Write an extra essay, get an extra recommendation, anything...?

I would do whatever you can to show interest and why you would be a great fit for Elon. I would send your first semester grades if they show improvement or at least are in the same range as those you had submitted with your application. Hopefully, you will be showing that you are not slacking off during your senior year. If you can visit, do that. Try to arrange a meeting with a department head if you have a specific major in mind. Arrange to sit in on some classes in your area of interest. If someone can write a letter of recommendation, send it. I don't think Elon requires them with their application, so you would be sending them something additional about yourself. If you receive any awards or honors that were not on your original application, notify Elon of those as they happen. You want to show interest! You want to avoid being annoying though, so keep the contact limited, but relevant. Good luck. My daughter is a freshman and she LOVES it there!

all of what nydancemom said is very true, you need to keep a steady (but not ridiculous) flow of mail to the school. i have also heard of people contacting the admissions office and asking where they stand on the defferal list, and what it would take for them to get in. but i would think you would have to be overly polite and nice for them to disclose such personal information. just keep letting them know everything you can, contact some teachers in your potential major etc. good luck!
