So I was deferred at elon and I'm anxious to know what we can do to stand out in the regular pool. Plus it seems that lots of students accepted EA as well of course ED have filled up the majority of the freshman class...

Elon is one of my top two schools and would absolutely attend if accepted!

I applied Early Action to Elon and was deferred back in December. Elon is my first choice; the school is tied with Wake Forest, so I was devastated. However, one of the many college websites I read an article about what to do and one of their suggestions was to email the admissions adviser for your area (all of the counselors are on the Facebook page). I emailed my adviser before the Fellows Program deadline and she encouraged me to apply for the Leadership program and Honors Program. I only applied for the Leadership program and while I didn’t think I would get offered to compete for the actual award, I actually did get the invitation Friday afternoon and they accepted me. I wish I could tell you to do the same, but the deadline has already passed for it. My admissions adviser told me that if I wanted to, I could have sent some recommendation letters in if that helps?

I was deferred as well. Just last week, I emailed my admissions counselor directly and updated him with things that occurred during the first semester. (Examples: acceptance to the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a volunteer position became a paid position). I also emphasized the fact that I am still very very interested in Elon. In addition, I sent a letter in the mail too, just to make sure he wouldn’t miss my message LOL. He responded back to my email and seemed genuinely happy that I took the initiative to get in contact with him.

To those of you who were deferred, hang in there – I hope you get the answer you want in the Spring.

Do any of you mind posting your stats? My son’s a HS junior; has visited Elon; likes it. It’s too early to know right now if he would apply ED or EA or RD, but for him ED may be required to push him over the edge, admissions-wise. I don’t have his stats yet (just took Jan SAT; no ACT yet; GPA is still TBD) but if any of you want to post your stats (or PM them to me) I would appreciate it. If not, no worries.

Clairfying - the 4.0 13 all94 refers to is weighted on a 6.0 scale (6.0 for an A in an AP course, 5.0 for an A in Honors, 4.0 for an A in College Prep, etc). They do not expect 4 years of straight As.

Elon is VERY wholistic and their admissions outcomes are rather unpredictable. Once you reach some certain minimum/average on stats (and no one outside of admissions can tell you what those stats will be from year to year), beyond that level higher stats don’t help as much as ECs and your essay. Elon likes active, involved kids.

I was deferred also in December, my sats are 1910 superscored, 1300 m+ cr. gpa is 3.54. Sending in 1st semester grades and will hear back in march.

Talk to them! My best friend last year was initially deferred, and she spoke to her specific intended major’s dept. head, who really liked her initiate and managed to work something out. Don’t be pushy about it, but do go for it!
