I found out today and was totally bummed. Elon is my top choice, the only reason I did not apply Early Decision is because my family did not want to me to have a binding contract to a school. I am a little confused though. I thought I had a really good chance; I got a Presidential Scholarship to Trinity University in San Antonio (second best school in the Texas), and also a scholarship to Southwestern and High Point, and I got into TCU, UNC Asheville, and the University of Denver.

Elon is still my top choice. Just wanted to start a thread because I wanted to know if people are on the same boat I am. Also, I wanted to know if any current Elon students were deferred and get their advice on how they got accepted!! Thank you.

Wow, you’ve gotten all those scholarships into those schools? Truthfully, you can do better than Elon. Despite having a huge endowment, they are incredibly stingy with scholarships and financial aid. So if you got deferred then you probably won’t get their highest scholarship - which is actually ridiculous, like $5,000 annually. Sorry, I know that didn’t really answer your question but I hope it was useful!

Does Elon look at deferred applicants first during regular decision? Do we have a better shot than RD applicants since we applied early and showed interest?

Im glad theres people in the same boat as me. When I looked at my status at 12 AM my jaw literally dropped and I stared at the screen for a good 10 minutes in shock and disappointment at being deferred. Elon is my #1 choice as well and i thought i could’ve gotten in when i was accepted to schools with the same acceptance rate at Elon. Anyway based on statistics via college board- When on waiting list you have about a 37% of getting accepted. I hope someone who was deferred last year and got in can please give us golden knowledge. I’ll do anything. ANYTHING.

Two years ago when I believe it was easier to get into Elon, my daughter was waitlisted rd. In all fairness, she did not visit but stayed on the WL. She won several prestigious awards before graduating- not sure if she submitted those, but was offered a spot freshman year second semester. Not ideal but an offer.
She chose another university which ended up being a perfect fit for her.
My point is sometimes things happen for a reason -Keep an open mind toward other schools.
If Elon still has that magical feel, keep updating your file with stronger grades, awards etc and visit the school again.
Hope all goes your way.
