So I've done some searching but not to very conclusive results. What exactly is a first generation college student? My dad went to a 2 year college and didn't graduate (in the US); my mom did not go to college. Does this qualify me as FGCS? Does the definition change between colleges or programs (such as Questbridge)?

Thanks

Do a search. This has been asked many times before.

Some programs/colleges will NOT consider you a FGCS if either of your parents were ever enrolled at a post-secondary institution. It may not matter that neither of them ever finished.

If they ask 'did your parents go to college", that is what they mean, that they went, not that they graduated (I called and asked). If they ask "did they graduate from college" then that is what they want to know. Different schools want to know different things.

There are two widely used definitions, it depends on the school and some use the definition "never attended" while others use "never obtained a degree".
