Also, I don’t see why you can’t apply for UC Davis. Even though they don’t offer a business major, you can major in “managerial economics.”

Again, I don’t know why you are limiting yourself to nearby schools. I think that it is very enriching to go to school somewhere else and be exposed to something other than the California culture and way of life, not to mention the fact that you might need to be flexible about where you work when you’re trying to get a job.

Do you realize that Cal Poly SLO’s business department is ranked higher and more prestigious than all of the UCs other than Haas at UC Berkeley?

“UC” isn’t equivalent to Ivy League. Some of the CSUs are as good or superior depending on your major. Shop around a bit.

If you do decide to go into accounting then UCSB’s econ/acc major is very well recruited by the Big 4. It’s underrated because UCSB is known as a natural sciences school.

^Huh…? That’s not true for Cal Poly. Ranking don’t really have that much bearing in this situation, but Cal Poly is unranked for US News (business) and is behind UCSD in Businessweek.

Granted, Cal Poly is academically on par with the UC system, even though it’s technically a CSU.

Thank you for all the replies, I appreciate it very much.

Terenc, I was told that uc Davis does not offer enough of the accounting courses that I need to fulfill the 34 units required im accounting to sit in on the exam. For now I think my priorities for undergrad would be Berkeley,Davis (if possible), Irvine, and Santa Barbara.
I would apply to all of them and TAG to one that I find most appealing as backup. I will look into cal poly, thank you.

Any suggestions or comments will be great !

UCSD isn’t ranked above SLO by Business Week as far as I see. University of San Diego is. That’s a private school and not related to University of California San Diego. I’ve made the same mistake in the past.

I wasn’t implying that Cal Poly > UCs, only that the original poster is narrowing their choices by only wanting something with UC in the name. Especially for business, which is something some/most UCs treat as an afterthought and some of the CSUs specialize in.

If the OP is 100% sold on a UC for accounting courses then my choices would be 1. Haas 2. UCSB.

^on top of those two another option I had was majoring in business Econ and minority in accounting at irvine. But now I’m considering leaning towards sb more as my second choice and irvine as my third.

And yes, to be honest, I was narrowing my choices solely based on something with uc in its name.
Thank you for your input.

@discoinferno: Ah, yes, you’re right. However, UCSD is unranked (not even considered by businessweek) because they don’t offer a business major (only a business minor or an accounting minor) - you would major in econ.

Also, if you’re a strong enough student, you could try applying to USC for financial aid/ merit aid.
