So, I made this account quite a while back - durring the application cycle for the fall of 2014 and have been an active member on this forum since the ; however, I was not aware when I made this account tnat I would not be able to delete it when I wanted to (if I had been aware I would have never made an account).
I don’t want to delete it just yet but I would like to delete it sometime in the near future.
Is there a mod or site administrator that I can contact to have them delete my account?
It was clearly stated in the Terms of Service, which you agreed to when you signed up, that posts and threads cannot be deleted. If everyone started having their accounts deleted, the threads would be full of holes that would confuse other users.
@MaineLonghorn
I don’t mind if the posts and threads aren’t deleted, I just want the account deleted.
I am not sure if that makes any sense but I have seen forums where a users account is deleted but their posts are still on the forum, however, other users can not click/interact with the dead account (and the old user can not log into their account).
@MaineLonghorn
It’s all good. Bit of a shame though, hopefully a process of account deletion like the one I described above can be implemented in the future for users like myself.
Realistically, what is the difference between “delete my account” and “never access the account again”?
What is it you are trying to accomplish by deleting the account, that you can’t accomplish just by never logging on again?
If it’s the emails, disable the notifications and change your email address to a non-existent address.
@notrichenough
That is a good suggestion, which I have already thought about.
I suppose I really just wanted to end all temptation. As of right now this site has been a wonderful recource, and a great tool to communicate with others going through the same process (which fosters a great community of support and nice people to have a conversation with); however, once this process is through I would like to continue onward and not have any of my focus diverted. I know myself well enough to know I will be tempted.
But your route sounds just as good as mine and I will likely use your selected method.
Account deletion is common on internet fora.
The way it usually works, posts stay but the username is grayed so as to signify that the account is no longer active.
