Demise of Normalcy at Vanderbilt?

I am a good student and am very interested in Vanderbilt. I have looked at other schools (UPenn, Princeton, Duke, etc) and am attracted to the sense of normalcy at Vanderbilt. While I certainly want a top tier school, equally important to me is a traditional, fun college experience (fraternity, sporting events, southern “preppy” feel, etc.). I really saw this work/play balance and body of normal, attractive students at Vanderbilt, however, I am concerned whether this will begin to disappear in the years to come. As Vanderbilt’s acceptance rate is declining and scores are rising, I am concerned that Vanderbilt is going to go the way of other Ivy’s/Duke inevitably losing the unique feel and fun atmosphere to an overly intense study feel. Will Vanderbilt be able to maintain this sense of well-roundedness and tradition in the coming years?

Rising sophomore here. Although Vandy attracts some of the brightest students from all over the US and the world, I have never experienced unhealthy competition or an overly intense focus on just academics. We like to balance our academic pursuits with extra-curricular activities as well. Vandy students also know when to unwind and take a break. This does not mean only partying, but also exploring Nashville, its unique music scene and other popular spots. There are also many events on campus that allow you to pursue your passions and hobbies. I don’t think we will lose our unique balance in the coming years.

OP…seems like a strange and vacuous question! Cannot be answered.

Certain U’s tend to attract certain types of students. Vanderbilt has been attractive to students like you who seek a combination of top tier academics, research, collaboration, community, happiness, quality of life, desirable location, and balance. I don’t see that changing in the near future.
