Does UR take demonstrated interest fairly heavily in the application process? I know for some colleges like Brandeis, demonstrated interest is important for the admissions process.

If there is one thing I have gathered from their presentations, website, etc., is that they really, really, really, really, really want you to interview.

Yes, demonstrated interest is important. But that doesn’t mean you have to visit. Meeting a college rep when he or she comes to your school, going to a hotel info session, interviewing off campus, are all ways to show interest.

They think enough of it to mention it themselves. I imagine that they are trying to manage their yield rate.

I believe that demonstrated interest is especially important if you are looking for merit aid.

demonstrated interest is becoming increasingly less important… it is natural that those students who have interviewed, exchanged e-mails, or made phone calls are going to be more memorable… but it is impossible to monitor how often a student logs on to the website or to tell whether or not making the trip to upstate NY is an affordable option, etc. In other words, students are demonstrating interest in more ways than is possible to track… interviews are the best option because they are offered with alumni and/or over the phone with a counselor, so everyone should have the ability to interview.
