Denver Transfer

Hi I realized there is not so much discussion in this university's forum.
I just want to ask, how's life in the university of Denver? Is it hard to get in to the Daniells business school?
I am already applied and now waiting for a decision

My son graduated from Denver a year ago…and loved it all four years. Strong academics, a lot of very interesting people. He started out in Daniels but ended up falling in love with public policy.

Do you have any specific questions I can have him answer for you?

Heard rumblings about budget cuts and general decline of the school? Any truth to this? Any information about the type of student that would do well there, as well impressions of the business school, what your son liked about the public policy department/major?, admissions advice etc. would all be gratefully received.

Denver seems to have weathered the recession with very few problems. They have a very interesting group of relatively recent alumni who are quite generous…did you know that the founders of Gap, Chipotle and Enterprise are all Denver grads, among others?

My sons friends all seem to have found good jobs upon graduation, except for one…and he still dreams of being discovered as a rock musician.

About public policy program…very well respected, the faculty is excellent and includes two ex-governors of Colorado, great connections, and it played to my son’s academic strengths. The business school is amazing and very strong…

Denver is one of those schools, that if on one of the coasts, would be a very hot school…it’s just less known because it is in flyover country. However, it’s getting progressively harder to get in.

Definitely get to know your regional admissions representative, and sign up early for your Ammi Hyde interview…it counts for a lot.

^ great info, thanks!

I went to DU and wanted to transfer out both and finally did at the end of my sophomore year. It feels like everybody wants to transfer out but nobody wants to go through the work of it. Social scene is very forced. I did meet some interesting people but vast majority were uninterested “coasties” that shouldn’t be in school. This creates a horrible study environment. I’m not exaggerating when I say it is like high school. Some people like it but most of them are Greek. If you are going here and don’t have a choice, give it a shot and get involved; being a small school, you do get a lot of opportunity that larger schools don’t offer and I will credit it that. If you applied but aren’t sure though, at least for a couple years from 2012, don’t waste your time.
